    We are located in the seacoast area of Southeastern New Hampshire with a year round population of nearly 15,000 residents. SAU 16 has a diverse housing mix and population, with a combination of young families, seniors, and millennials that call the area home. Exeter is a thriving residential community ideally situated 50 miles north of Boston, MA and 50 miles south of Portland, ME along Interstate 95.

    Cooperative Middle School boasts a committed staff of over 200 team members serving 1,000 students in grades 6-8 from six surrounding towns. We are seeking an experienced, proven instructional leader to serve as the next permanent Principal of Cooperative Middle School beginning on July 1, 2022.

    We believe the next CMS educational leader who demonstrates, at best, the following five components with respect to their approach to the position of Principal will be highly successful:

    • Has expertise in curriculum, instruction and assessment leadership, with a broad base of knowledge about competency-based education and innovative middle school practices.

    • Reflects a high level of integrity and character that can be observed and modeled through visible behaviors while interacting with students, staff and families.

    • Has ample school leadership experience that reflects practical knowledge of research-based change processes and the communication skills that must complement them.

    • Illustrates a level of expertise in implementing and sustaining social and emotional learning programs and activities for all students and staff.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Master's degree or higher in education leadership with certification (or eligible) as a New Hampshire School Principal.

    • Demonstrated administrative and collaborative leadership experience in a public or private school.

    • Successful practice and evidence of leading in a competency-based, equity driven academic program.

    • A passion for helping students grow and learn.

    • An ability to manage change while strengthening relationships and building networks within the community.

    Basic Functions
    • Develops and administers school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.

    • Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of learner-centered educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.

    • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.

    • Ensures that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.

    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

    • Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to prototype new approaches or strategies to teaching.

    • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and reporting for all student activities, attendance and records as required by law.

    • Coordinates the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.

    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.

    • Coordinates with the central office in recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.

    • Organizes and conducts regular meetings with teachers for continuing development of instructional techniques.

    • Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.

    • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

    • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.

    • Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.

    • Organizes and manages the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.

    • Develops strong relationships with parents and encourages active engagement and involvement in the school community.

    Work Schedule

    The work year for this position is 260 days.

    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

    • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.

    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.


    Qualifications to apply for the position include:
    1. New Hampshire State Certification as a School Principal

    2. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

    3. Undergraduate degree and Master's Degree from accredited colleges or universities, preferably a M.Ed. or CAGS in School Administration/Educational Leadership.

    4. Successful teaching experience in a public or private school, with five (5) years of school leadership experience as a certified assistant principal or principal.

    Compensation:
    • The salary range for this position is $118,000 - $126,000.
