At Kokua, we match schools with passionate guest educators who empower students to expand their horizons. We are looking for dynamic, positive leaders to be Substitute Teachers and change the lives of students. 

Our teachers create their own schedules with daily and long-term opportunities at over 120+ K-12 schools throughout Chicago.

Substitute Teacher Benefits:

Substitute Teacher Requirements:

• Have a strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world
• Bachelor's Degree
  • Associate's Degree or 60+ credits accepted for paraprofessional and assistant teacher roles 
• Ability to pass a State & FBI background check
• Willingness to acquire IL Substitute Teacher License, Professional Educator's License, or Paraprofessional license (required by state)*
• According to a state mandate, all teachers must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated, or be willing to complete weekly testing.

Substitute Teacher Preferred Qualifications: 

• At least 6 months experience working with youth
• Willing to teach at least 2 days/week 
• Interest in education, social work, counseling, and/or working with youth.
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom of students.

*LIMITED PROMOTION:  Reimbursement for IL Substitute Teaching License after completion of 8 days in the classroom for new applicants! (License is good for 5 years!)
