Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy opened in 1998 with a mission to prepare students to succeed in competitive colleges and to empower them to use public policy to create a more just, free, and equal world.

Now, over 20 years later, Chavez provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, a unique public policy program, and a safe and supportive learning environment with comprehensive support services. POSITION SUMMARY
Dedicated aides will provide one-on-one support to scholars with moderate to severe needs in both special education and general education classrooms. Specifically, dedicated aides will support scholars with special needs by helping them work through regular or modified grade-level curricula as well as provide interventions to lead to better behavioral and academic outcomes for the scholar. Dedicated aides will work closely with the grade level teams, gain hands-on experience working one-on-one with scholars, serve as an advocate for the scholar, create meaningful partnerships with the scholar and his/her family, participate in school-wide professional development, and receive frequent feedback and coaching.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide engaging, motivating, and relevant one-on-one support to students with special needs in both regular and special education classrooms.
  • Create Dedicated Aid plans, in collaboration with the scholar's case managers, teachers and related service providers, to monitor progress and target interventions.
  • Collaborate regularly with grade level and multi-disciplinary teams regarding individual student's progress and needs; gather and analyze data and anecdotal information on scholar progress during instruction.
  • Teach and enforce school-wide systems, rules & consequences, disciplinary codes, and rewards at all times.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in all professional development and learning opportunities. Continuously use feedback to make productive changes in instructional practices and overall performance.
  • Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines.
  • Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout the year.
  • Communicate regularly with scholar's family to provide progress reports and establish rapport.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIRED
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent, post secondary education preferred.
  • 1-3 years professional work experience
  • Detail and results-oriented with superior verbal and written skills
  • Organized professional
  • Communicate clearly with a solutions-focused attitude to multiple stakeholders
  • Prior school experience a plus
  • Belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels with no excuses
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making
  • Strategic thinker and proactive problem-solver
  • Embodies the highest ethical standards
  • Works independently with little direct supervision and as part of a team

ADA Specifications: This position will be based at the Chavez Parkside campus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the building. In addition, travel to other sites could be required, frequency to depend on the needs of the school and position. The employee is regularly required to speak audibly, see, listen actively, and use hands to handle objects while performing the duties of this job. This position requires the ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and filing cabinets.
