LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE TEACHER - ART (CERAMICS) AT GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL FROM MID-MARCH 2022 TO A DATE TO BE DETERMINED

Position Purpose

Provide high quality instruction to students in grade 9-12 in our Ceramics program and assist students to:
  • Create, perform and respond with understanding to the arts
  • Appreciate the importance of the arts in expressing human experiences
  • Be prepared to apply their arts knowledge and skill throughout their lifetime

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :
  • Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching to the National Core Arts Standards.
  • Ability to use a computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Essential Responsibilities :
  • Administers school art curriculum consistent with school district goals, school goals, and objectives
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for art instruction
  • Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art, art appreciation and what constitutes art
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in artistic techniques and expression, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art classes
  • Creates learning opportunities where students can analyze and evaluate artistic expression both intellectually and emotionally.
  • Reviews and implements modifications, accommodations, and intervention plans for all students both general and special education.
  • Cooperates with the school and district administration in providing art opportunities for students and, as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students' art experience (art show, contributions to school events, etc).

Certification/Licence :
  • CT State Certification Art PK-12 (042)

Education :
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
