    JOB DESCRIPTION

    JOB TITLE: Learning Specialist

    REPORTS TO: Virtual School Administrator

    WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

    PAY GRADE: AI 2

    PRIMARY PURPOSE :

    The Learning Specialist is responsible for supporting administrators and teachers in the identification, intervention and management of at-risk students and prepare these students for academic success.

    All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, championing the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • Valid Texas teaching certificate
    • At least two years of successful teaching


    Preferred:

    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university


    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Good motivational skills with students and teachers
    • Experience in teaching other teachers
    • Ability to work well with others
    • Flexible and patient
    • Excellent technology skills

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    • Providing Staff Development
    • Model effective instructional strategies for teachers in an online environment as well as face to face.
    • Coach teachers to develop their capacity to reflect upon practice, generate ideas and increase professional self-awareness.
    • Provide staff development and resources on effective tutorials and assist in developing a tutorial schedule.
    • Promote an understanding of the grade level TEKS to administrators and teachers and how they are integrated within the curriculum.
    • Request Directors assistance in staff development, as needed.
    • Provide staff development and promote program.
    • Monitoring
    • Monitor the academic progress of identified students following State Assessment interventions.
    • Monitor the implementation of the SISD Student Success/State Assessment Plan.
    • Monitor the academic progress of identified students following interventions based on District and Program formatives.
    • Assisting with Effective Interventions
    • Assist administrators and teachers with the planning and implementation of effective instructional interventions.
    • Serve as lead interventionist with specific support for teachers and students
    • Plan and monitor tutorials with home campuses
    • Testing and Data Assistance
    • Use the ADM software to disaggregate testing data.
    • Assist administrators and teachers to use the data to identify students who need additional assistance.
    • Facilitate Program and District Assessment (CBA) testing.
    • Communicating
    • Maintain on-going communication with administrators, classroom teachers, and program directors.
    • Technology
    • Assist in technology support for teachers and content departments
    • Support teachers in grade book implementation
    • Support and monitor online assessments
    • Monitor teacher and student pace and progress online


    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following:
    Job may require prolonged periods of time standing, moderated sitting, stooping, bending, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. May require some lifting no more than 10lbs. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

That number will change soon with the construction of several new facilities – including two middle schools, three ninth-grade centers and a state-of-the-art stadium that will serve the entire district – all funded by a bond referendum approved by voters in 2016.
