Additional Information: In accordance with Governor Jay Inslee's announced Proclamation 21-14.1 on August 18th 2021, all K-12 school district employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 18th, 2021. Candidates who are extended a conditional offer of employment with Tacoma Public Schools will be required to submit proof of vaccination status in compliance with Governor Inslee's mandate, prior to official hire with the district. Individuals qualifying for a medical and/or religious exemption outlined under the Governor's directive will be required to provide proof of exemption prior to official hire with the district. Summary:
Experiences frequent interruptions; required to deal with distraught or angry people; required to work extended hours; required to travel to district sites.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in developing and maintaining all regular and special education bus stops, runs, routes, and schedules consistent with district policies and state legal requirements, utilizing the EDULOG Transportation Planning System; generates route information for distribution; reviews all special needs bus route change requests.

2. Communicates by telephone with parents, teachers, special education staff, school bus coordinators, principals, and others regarding the transportation of special education and out of district students; coordinates transportation services for out-of-district students in cooperation with other school districts.

3. Works with the dispatcher and drivers to resolve problems with routes; makes revisions to driver routes as needed; maintains appropriate records.

4. Assists in monitoring routes for efficient scheduling of bus drivers' hours to minimize overtime costs; reviews and analysis bus reports and home-to-school times; generates and maintains weekly drivers' time control sheet to track drivers' hours.

5. Responds to inquiries and requests for information from district staff, parents, and community members; directs inquiries to appropriate staff members.

Minimum Qualifications

Other information:
Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent with three years of consecutive EDULOG bus routing experience or another approved routing system; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general office procedures.
Knowledge of operating procedures for student transportation.
Knowledge of routing procedures and methods.
Knowledge of computer routing systems and boundary analysis software applications desirable.
Knowledge of personal computer operation and related software applications.
Skill in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information.
Ten key and 40 wpm keyboarding skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure.
Ability to analyze and make recommendations regarding bus routing activities
Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Ability to problem solve and exercise independent judgment.
Ability to maintain accurate records and generate computerized reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a diverse, multi-cultural setting.
Ability to establish and maintain a high quality customer service environment.

Required Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington State driver's license.

Working Conditions
Required to concentrate on detail and to be precise; required to travel to various in-city locations; may be required to work extended hours; required to deal with angry or distraught people; experiences prolonged visual concentration and exposure to video display.
