About this role...
In the Psychometrician role, you will be responsible for conducting operational psychometric analysis, and leading, planning, conducting, and documenting research that supports the organization's assessment solutions. This position requires strong oral and written communication skills, proactive problem-solving skills, an ability to drive research from inception to completion. Foundational knowledge of classical test theory, item response theory (IRT), and contemporary perspectives of validity theory is required with preference given to those with expertise computerized adaptive testing, multistage adaptive testing, and linking and equating. Prior experience with early literacy assessments is also preferred but not required. This is a full-time position with competitive compensation and an outstanding benefits package. NWEA may choose to hire a senior level Psychometrician or mid-level Psychometrician, depending on experience and qualifications.

Location: For this role, candidates may work at our Portland, OR. headquarters, or work remotely anywhere in the U.S.

Your next challenge...
  • Planning, leading, conducting, and documenting research projects independently including, but not limited to, sampling design, test scaling and equating , DIF analysis, and IRT calibration , with unidimensional or multidimensional item response models .
  • Clearly communicating about technical issues to colleagues, clients, and other stake holder groups such as technical advisory committees and professional associations.
  • Designing, developing, and documenting technical and operational procedures and statistical guidelines for assigned area.
  • Writing and editing psychometric documents that are tailored to the target audience for RFPs, technical reports, research briefs, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensuring quality control of deliverables.
  • Engaging in a program of research, publication, and presentations at professional conferences on measurement issues that contribute to the organization's assessment solutions and the field of educational measurement.
  • Occasional travel required for this role

  • Experience and use of computer software packages commonly used in psychometric work and research (e.g., SAS, R, WINSTEPS, flexMIRT, jMetrik , SQL, python, pandas ).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets efficiently.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex measurement and statistical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide innovative solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as evidenced with a successful partnering and consulting with clients

Education and experience ...
  • A Ph.D. in Educational Measurement, Psychometrics, Psychological Measurement, or a related field with 5 years of experience is required
  • Preference for expertise computerized adaptive testing, multistage adaptive testing, and linking and equating.
  • Prior experience with early literacy assessments is also preferred but not required.
  • Ability to design and conduct independent research
  • A record of participating in complex projects in large-scale assessment over a sustained time period
  • Demonstrated professional achievement through publication in refereed scholarly journals or presentations at professional conferences
