GENERAL STATEMENT
The Academic Tutor accepts responsibility for providing small group tutoring for our highest needs students in order to accelerate their academic growth. Tutors will support students primarily in literacy foundational skills. Tutors will facilitate activities in the classroom, structured by the classroom teacher, during school hours.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Adhere to schedule given by building designee
· Be prepared to support a clear scope and sequence and instructional expectations shared by the District
· Communicate with teacher on facilitation and planning of groups
· Use research based Tier 1 EL and SPED strategies and scaffold for students who are English Learners and Special Education (visuals, vocabulary, graphic organizers, sentence frames, extended time)
· Maintain progress monitoring data when applicable
· Follow instructional focus provided by school designee
· Track individual student performance based upon individual goals
· Ensure that students are participating and interacting
· Communicate with the student's classroom teacher, lead teacher or designee about student performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Willing to learn and facilitate small groups centers with elementary students
· Work with Classroom teacher to provide strategies in foundational literacy skills
· Willing to learn foundational Literacy Grade Level Common Core State Standards for early elementary
· Work cooperatively with other staff in the school
· Prior tutoring experience preferred.
WORK YEAR
Number of days per week vary. 1 hr. a day in the morning required. Up to 2 hours a day based on need.
SALARY
SPS Teachers as per the SEA contract
High school graduate $13.00/hour
College graduate $20.00 /hour
Certified teacher $30.00 / hour
