Essex High School is seeking an Assistant Principal to join the Leadership Team for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.

The Assistant Principal serves as an effective member of the Essex High School Leadership Team assisting and supporting the Co-Principals providing optimum educational opportunities for all students through the lens of the team's core values: community, high expectations for all, collective efficacy, and making a positive impact. Our team is committed to culturally sustaining practices, examining our systems and structures for equity and making the necessary changes, and swift and just responses to bias incidences.

The Assistant Principal provides leadership in planning, implementation, and assessment of assigned content areas aligned with school and district goals, actions plans, and other initiatives, and supports a safe and respectful learning and working environment.

EWSD and Essex High School are committed to considering out of state candidates who are eligible to hold a Vermont educator license but do not yet hold a license in this state. Those with experience working in another country, ability to fluently speak more than one language, Peace Corp experience, or other worldly experiences are encouraged to apply.

Essex High School seeks candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in School Administration or other appropriate discipline, plus five years proven success as a classroom teacher (minimum of three years at secondary level)or educational leader, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Vermont Educator license with a Principal endorsement 2-91 or 3-91.
  • Commitment to proficiency-based learning and reporting, success for all learners, parent and community participation in school life, and lifelong learning. Ability to lead conversations and professional development to promote understanding and adoption of effective practices related to proficiency-based learning and reporting.
  • Be able to hold conversations around race and race-related topics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Restorative Justice and practices.
  • Understand and be able to use a broad variety of computer and tech software and tools.
  • Demonstrated competence in vision-based and strategic planning and development, research and design, data-driven decision making, and relationship building.
  • Ability to receive and reflect upon constructive feedback and grow with the leadership team.
  • Demonstrated skill set for facilitation, effective communication, collaboration, and engagement strategies that build understanding and a community of purpose.
  • Holds high expectations for all students, and is committed to ensuring all students learn and succeed.
  • Takes responsibility for student achievement and demonstrates commitment to continually work to improve practices and align these practices with school/district directions.
  • Understanding of and ability to provide direction and leadership in the various aspects of differentiated instruction, supported learning environments, formative assessment, proficiency-based reporting, data driven decision making, student engagement, and other instructional and classroom management practices.
  • Dedication to the high level of student and staff performance.
