ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged Superintendent Jaime Alicea with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.

REPORTS TO: Director of Health Services

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for maintaining Syracuse City School District's overarching response to the COVID-19 pandemic, developing plans and protocols that balance staff and student health and safety and access to academics. This work is done in partnership with district leadership and stakeholders across the school district, Onondaga County Health Department, and state. Note: This is a one year only position with option for renewal. This position will be expected to work several days/weeks during the summer of 2022 with full compensation.

TYPE OF POSITION:

Civil Service temporary position for a "special project" for up to 18 months ‐ The COVID Coordinator will be available on a flexible 40-hour schedule, 7 days a week (includes weekends and holidays).

JOB DUTIES:
  • Track, analyze, advise, consult, and implement new/updated public health guidelines in coordination with the District's Director of Health Services, other members of the Health Services team, and other district stakeholders, as necessary. Continuously monitor the District's preparedness activities, protocols, and responses to the ever-changing conditions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Onondaga County Department of Health, New York State Department of Health and other public health agencies, facilitating conversations about and review of the district's COVID-19 response and plans; serving as the primary point of contact for questions among District staff, as needed.
  • Lead the District's COVID-19 Response Team, coordinating work and meetings, as needed; and engaging stakeholders to address the ever-changing responses demanded by a pandemic. Develop and deliver training to staff and stakeholders related to contact tracing, health and safety protocols, and other COVID-19 response related standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee the District's compliance with public health requirements for contact tracing and the district's overall contact tracing strategy, maintaining/updating the COVID-19 Response Team protocols, as necessary; coordinating the COVID-19 Response Team to address new guidance, protocol updates/changes and training; and more.
  • Maintain and update the SCSD COVID-19 guidebooks for families and staff and the Reopening Plan Play Book the primary records of SCSD's evolving COVID-19 response plans and protocols.
  • Work with the District's Communications Department to develop strategies of communication about the District's COVID-19 response and protocols for internal and external district stakeholders, including but not limited to staff, students, families, community members, elected officials and more. Assist Communications Department with maintaining up to date information on the COVID-19 SCSD webpage.
  • Give daily written report of COVID-19 cases to Health Services and Communication for reporting to NYS Dashboard and SCSD website.
  • Serve as a resource and provide guidance to district administrators regarding district protocols, contact tracing, and communication including effective implementation. Lead COVID-19 contact tracing effort for cases in all District buildings, across multiple buildings and sports and promptly communicate quarantine determinations. Provide assistance with contacting families and staff members who are determined to need quarantine.
  • Maintain and analyze SCSD's COVID-19 data (existing and new data), coordinating efforts so that District's related COVID-19 data dashboards provide accurate, timely and actionable data for school, department, and district leaders, as well as provide a transparent picture of COVID-19 in the district for members of the community. Coordinate with other members of the COVID-19 Response Team and SCSD departments for case contact tracing.
  • Support the logistics activities of health/nursing staff and Operations staff, in relation to the purchasing of COVID-19 related supplies, etc. Liaison with the Director Health Services, purchasing department, and facility services department to ensure supplies, equipment, and materials are procured, and distributed.
  • Be responsible to oversee the weekly COVID‐19 testing of all unvaccinated staff members as per the Governor's Executive Order requiring all unvaccinated staff members working in public schools to be tested weekly. Support and assist with required pool testing as required by the OCHD.
  • Any additional responsibilities that pertain to COVID‐19 if and when new regulations/requirements are released by the Health Department, NYS Governor's Office, or the NYSED. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Good understanding of COVID-19 health and safety protocols and contact tracing experience preferred.
  • School Nursing experience or experience in health-related field is preferred. Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.
  • Once offered, you will be required to declare that all previous obligations with an employing school district have been met and you are not seeking this position with the intent of resigning from a previous commitment in which you have not served.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.00 to the candidate.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

The starting salary for this position is $70,000
