Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC seeks an Accounting Associate to join the KIPP DC Finance Team. The Accounting Associate will be responsible for supporting the Finance team at KIPP DC's headquarters. As a vital member of our team, the Associate will provide key assistance to the Accounting Manager in the execution of all tasks related to the accounts payable (A/P) function and the reconciliation of KIPP DC's corporate credit cards. This work shall be in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to ensure appropriate audit protocols are maintained within these areas. This is an exempt position and report to the Senior Accounting Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Respond to requests from KIPP DC staff in support of A/P function

• Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions

• Assist with KIPP DC's annual financial audit and support additional monitoring visits/audits as necessary

• Monitor the online credit card system, BBVA

• Serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP DC's staff

• Accounts payable invoice data entry

• Code invoices in accordance with KIPP DC's chart of accounts

• Handle vendor payments in an organized and timely manner

• Review and reconcile monthly corporate credit card expense reports

• Ensure imaging of invoice supporting documents is timely and accurately performed

• Maintain vendor relationships and collect logistical documentation for annual 1099 processing

• Assist in streamlining the accounts payable process

• Co-Manage KIPP DC's payables system, Anybill

• Review payments and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with KIPP DC's policies and procedures

• Perform monthly reconciliation of corporate utility bills

• Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities; verifying federal id numbers; scheduling and preparing checks; creates purchase orders and identifies payment; Ensure credit is received for outstanding memos; issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments

• Responsible for accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accuracy of all account coding, accounts payable, and credit card management

• Perform other assignments/projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 2-3 years of relevant experience required

• Experience reviewing a high volume of invoices

• Strong organization skills

• Strong time management skills and a detail and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done

• Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Comfort with working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment along with an outstanding ability to multi-task, prioritize, and execute project

• Experienced in Word, Excel and Outlook

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
