Position Summary:

The Mastery High School of Camden Varsity Head Track Coach instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies and physical training of competitive High School Track necessary for them to realize both individual and team success. The Track Coach reports directly to the Athletic Director (AD) at their school, and provides support to Principals and all Mastery Charter staff. Performance Evaluation will be in accordance with this job description and other guidelines and outcomes established with the Athletic Director.

The stipend for this position is $5,000

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Determine a system of Track that establishes goals and outcomes related to athletic and academic success
    • Run daily practices up to six days a week for the duration of the season in accordance with expectations from the Athletic Director
    • Recruit and maintain a full, competitive roster of students for the duration of this team's season
    • Uphold and inform parents and athletes of said goals, practice and eligibility requirements & related guidelines
    • Create season play and transportation schedule in collaboration with AD and Asst Principal of School Operations
    • Develop and maintain a yearly team budget in conjunction with AD and school principal
    • Maintains attendance forms, eligibility records, activity roster and related paperwork and provides to AD as requested
    • Monitor student-athlete eligibility weekly with support of Athletic Director
    • Maintain, update and keep active records of team inventory, including equipment, uniforms and athlete paperwork
    • Arrange and manage the transportation schedule for team season in conjunction with AD and AP of Operations
    • Represent team at all related league coaches meetings, Penn Jersey, and NJSIAA rules interpretation and NCAA meetings
    • Promote good sportsmanship, fair play and ethical standards of play to, from and during all team events or contests
    • Continuously uphold, assess and improve the athletes' relationship to school, staff and academic performance
    • Work across both team campuses to support athletes and teachers in developing the program
    • Report game scores after every event to AD (MHSC uses VNN website)
    • Adherence to all NJSIAA, Penn Jersey League, and Mastery Schools policies and procedures with NCAA requirements and state and local recruitment process for juniors/seniors

Required Qualifications:

    • Experience playing or coaching cross country
    • Successful completion of NJ criminal and child abuse record checks
    • Availability to attend all practices and games, typically held after school
    • Before the start of the fall season, successful candidate must complete:
    • - First Aid/CPR/AED Training
    • - NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certificate
    • - Concussion Wise and Sudden Cardiac online training.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Collegiate playing experience
    • USA Track Level D (or higher) Coaching Certification

Physical Requirements:

    • Standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, speak loudly and clearly, seeing and hearing things both near and far away, stooping, kneeling, fine finger and hand manipulation, repetitive hand and arm motion, keeping or regaining balance. Jumping , running, sprinting, moving or carrying heavy items, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, feeling, reaching, lifting, grasping, twisting above the waist, bending at waist
