Description

The Senior Accountant, Grant handles grant related accounting, application, reimbursement, and reconciliation. The job description of the senior accountant responsible for grants entails preparing reports and reconciling, estimating, and compiling grant activity into the general ledger. This role is also responsible for the tasks of carrying out general ledger account reconciliation, as well as other accounting operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Perform, manage, and oversee day-to-day operational accounting and month-end close.
  • Ensure accuracy, analysis, and timeliness, as well as compliance.
  • Work on reconciliation of accounts, audits and analysis of operational data every month to guarantee accuracy.
  • Summarize trends; acknowledge queries; draft and create reports on development.
  • Process and post journal records for accounting, account receivables.
  • Suggest fresh ideas to management in aspects such as organizing modification structure processes and resources.
  • Ensure accuracy, analysis, and timeliness, as well as compliance with GAAP prerequisites, making use of ERP modules.
  • Support invoicing to customers by interfacing with other personnel and validating that proper approval has been obtained prior to customer invoicing.
  • Draft narratives and completes application related forms to request, support and reconcile grant opportunities.
  • Partners with operational team to research and evaluate grant opportunities available to customers.
  • Assumes responsibility for underlying documentation in support of organization policies for invoicing customers.
  • Provides support to AR personnel and school CPA to ensure appropriate payment application.
  • Prepares grant related entries, account reconciliations, and various financial reports.
  • Provides analysis, scenario/proforma calculations, and other accounting activities as requested.


EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), accounting practices and theories
  • Ability to lead a team of professional staff, serve as an internal resource and consultant, and work collaboratively with all employees and key business partners.
  • Ability to interpret and appropriately apply accounting principles and regulations.
  • Ability to create pivot tables, v-lookups, advanced formulas, macros, index, conditional list, arrays.
  • Experience in applying and writing policies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience interpreting financial data.
  • Ability to manage time and deliver projects in a timely manner in an environment of competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires strong computer skills with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Requires strong technical skills in US GAAP
  • Requires ability to research accounting related policies and requirements to align company processes.
  • Advanced, current working knowledge of specific enterprise financial ERPs for mid-scale entities i.e. MS Business Central a plus
  • Experience with Private Equity backed organization
  • Education or not for profit experience a plus


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management or Finance
  • 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role
  • Microsoft Office Excel - Advanced

  • CPA License
