To assess and treat the people we support regarding Occupational Therapy areas in order to promote growth and independence. To assess and treat (if needed) individual activities of daily living skills performance as well as sensory integration abilities and maximize overall functional independence in that person's environment. To assess individual fine motor, sensory and daily living skills, and develop/ implement appropriate treatment plans based on above listed needs. Also provide oversight to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) (COTAs) as assigned by the Occupational Therapy Department Supervisor. This oversight may include but not be limited to co-signatures and/ or observation of therapy sessions as well as any other "Under the Direction of Requirements" as outlined by Medicaid Regulations in addition to oversight regulations outlined by the New York State Office of the Professions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assess individual fine motor, sensory, and activities of daily living (ADL) skills.
  2. Plan for and implement individual and group therapy sessions for the students to meet individual mandates.
  3. Develop written goals and objectives to be part of the overall Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  4. Document progress daily with progress notes, and record progress in quarterly reports, annual reports and summaries according to requirements and submitted by due dates.
  5. Review students' confidential file for pertinent information.
  6. Follow-up with classroom teachers, parents, support staff, aides and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) (COTAs) on progress of goals, problems areas, and carryover of possible interventions to maximize functional independence.
  7. In-service and model effective techniques in sensory integration and implementation of activities of daily living (ADL) programs to teachers and other staff.
  8. Written reports completed according to requirements and handed in within due dates.
  9. Consult, as needed, administration and support staff (i.e. social workers, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, school nurse, etc.). Attend and participate actively in pupil staffing, parent conferences, and scheduled team meetings as therapy schedule permits.
  10. Attend Autism Services, Inc. in-services.
  11. Strive to improve upon professional abilities by keeping informed of new materials, techniques, and theories. Attend continuing educational opportunities to maintain New York State licensure and National Board Certification as an Occupational Therapist (NBCOT).
  12. Provide "Under the Direction of" oversight for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) (COTAs) as needed.
  13. Keep accurate attendance that is in accordance with daily progress notes and follow medicaid guidelines.
  14. Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations, including Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention - Revised (SCIP-R) certification as per regulatory guidelines.
  15. Certification in CPR.
  16. Maintain all required trainings.
  17. Responsible for ensuring that confidentiality is strictly maintained as required by law and Agency policy.
  18. Responsible for securing and protecting personal and agency related data by adhering to the Agency's computer security policies.
  19. Follow all agency polices and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor or Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy.
  2. New York State License to practice occupational therapy and current registration.
  3. National Board Certification as an Occupational Therapist (NBCOT).
  4. Ability to meet physical requirements of the position when performing the following: standing, walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling and climbing.
  5. Ability to move, reposition, lift and transfer individuals as required by prescribed program/plan.
