Job Description
TITLE: School Bus Aide
DEPARTMENT: District Office - Transportation
LOCATION: District-wide
EFFECTIVE DATE: 10/18//2021
Position Summary
The Bus Aide assists in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of the school district. To accomplish these tasks, the Bus Aide works closely with the staff and administration of the district. Supervise and assist students in transit.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Building Principal
Supervises: Students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Know the proper use of securing devices for safety restraints, wheelchairs and seat belts.
2. Assist the driver in the proper loading and unloading of passengers.
3. Maintain student discipline.
4. Supervise and assist students in transit.
5. Report any concerns regarding students to the driver and to the appropriate building staff.
6. Know the school bus evacuation procedures and be physically capable to evacuate students in an emergency.
7. Learn the bus route and provide route information that includes driver directions for the best way to reach a location, for a substitute or newly assigned bus driver.
8. Occupy a seat that provides the best opportunity for student supervision while the bus is in motion.
9. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
10. Transports only authorized students.
11. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
12. Reports undisciplined students to the principal.
14. Keeps assigned bus clean.
15. Any and all duties/responsibilities as delegated/directed by the Superintendent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High School graduate or equivalent required
• 3 years previous security or related work experience required
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. Noise level is moderate to loud. Maintain emotional control under stress. Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a temporary part-time position that will be evaluated at the end of the school year based on the needs of the school district and the transportation contract renewal.
