Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Public Relations and Media Content in the Office of Public Information, the Web Manager oversees the management, planning, and development of the district communication; internal and external websites and contributing web technologies. This work includes project management, technical design, graphic design, writing and editing for the web, scheduling, production, and overall web content management of district-provided content and the secondary support of school-based content that is the direct responsibility of our 54+ schools. Work includes ensuring District projects carry a consistent brand on all web technologies and website graphic standards are followed by all departments and schools in order to establish websites that are dynamic and user-friendly.
The ideal candidate is someone who is proficient with current web development languages and trends, as well as someone who is familiar with Content Management Systems (CMS) as a development platform and augmented CMS capabilities with developing as-needed via customization or integrations using 3rd party plugins and web-parts where appropriate. Familiarity with mobile device management and web-to-publication design is also a plus.
The Web Manager is looked to as a partner in creativity and development by the Director of Public Relations and Media Content, as well as other senior leadership where necessary. Responsibility for development and delivery rests on the Web Manager, but is supported through copy and content development by departments and initiative leads.
Salary :
Support Exempt Salary Schedule, Level 6 (starting at $63, 281)
Qualifications :
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills are required.
- Ideal candidate is also comfortable as a presenter and would feel confident in presenting new ideas and plans to the wider group of team members within schools, the Offices of Public Information, Stakeholder Engagement and Information Technology.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- BS or BA degree in digital communications or computer science, graphic design and related minimum 2 years successful hands-on work experience or equivalent experience in contemporary web-development and communications work history.
- Minimum of two years experience within a variety of hardware environments with ability to manage web content from a client, as well as a server perspective.
- Advanced knowledge of HTML/CSS and experience with a content management system and common design applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sharepoint, Blackboard, Wordpress, Drupal or comparable tools.
- Familiarity with web best practices and accessibility standards a must.
- Excellent web/digital media project management experience.
- Fluent in development optimization techniques to deliver the best user experiences in the most technically efficient manner.
- Familiarity with common web languages and extensions as required, as well as awareness of browser compatibility issues.
- Experience with web server-to-email interfaces, and ability to design and program forms, surveys or linked content such as Google Docs content or Survey Monkey tools within frames.
- Ability to interact positively and effectively with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as outside stakeholders and vendors.

Essential Job Functions :
1. Provides day-to-day technical management of District websites including design, planning, and overall content management
2. Responsible for administration of content approval processes, implementation and integration of approved content
3. Copyedit and proofread all web content
4. Responsible for file and graphics management, forms design and construction
5. Communicates and coordinates overall site design implementation with other District staff, to match desired outcome with District standards and ensures technological feasibility
6. Programs in all common web standards such as html, .net, javascript, etc.
7. Responsible for webpage performance levels and cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility planning and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) designs
8. Shares best practices and provide ongoing training and education to all levels of District staff in support of site-based or departmental web page construction and modifications, file transfer and use of web tools/applications within the district's content management system
9. Collaborates with Office of Information Technology and Communications staff to resolve end-user issues as necessary and serves as secondary-level District support for web related issues above the Call Center day-to-day support
10. Creates and maintains documentation relevant for design solutions, procedures, and policies relating to day-to-day web manager functions
11. Manage content or Pittsburgh Public Schools web presence (includes news items, photo galleries, main calendar information, spotlight/feature items, informational page content, contact information, etc.)
12. Audit all websites for adherence to the District?s web standards, branding and style guidelines
13. Track and report on-site metrics and develop communication strategies that align to trends.
14. Provides working assistance for integrating and collaborating with other District staff members to ensure safe, secure, functional and sustainable solutions are utilized District-wide
15. Responsible for facilitating any after-hours response required in support of District web pages
16. Responsible for daily work assignments and priorities assigned in the District's call ticket system
17. Responsible for researching and recommending next generation web solutions relevant to the District's system environments
18. Coordinate web projects across departments and schools
19. Maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all websites
20. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
