Summary
The Family Development Specialist is certified in the nationally recognized model of home visitation, "Parents as Teachers". The FDS works in partnership with individual families (third trimester to school entry of child) to promote the healthy and optimal growth and development of children, and to promote school readiness. This is a strengths-based model incorporating personal home visits, child development information, parent-child activities, developmental and health screenings, and group meetings.

Qualifications:
- Possess training and/or experience in planning and facilitating group meetings.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in allied health, early childhood education, human development, social work or other related field.

- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the available community resources.
- Have experience working with low-income families.
- Have a knowledge base of child development and child-rearing techniques.
- Exhibit professionalism.
- Be enthusiastic about learning as well as teaching.
- Show acceptance, empathy and positive regard.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the philosophy, vision and mission of Family Centers.
- Have good organizational skills.
- Maintain accurate records
