Pre-Collegiate Program Coordinator (Middle School Focused)

Background: The mission of Roaring Fork PreCollegiate is to identify promising first-generation students and motivate them to pursue higher education. Through personal mentoring we provide access to resources and equip students with relevant life skills to enable them to successfully complete high school and transition into the post-secondary program of their choice.

Position Overview: The Program Coordinator works as part of a team to strategically support enrolled students and their parents during middle and high school on their path to post-secondary acceptance, enrollment, and completion.

The ideal candidate has experience working with and advocating for diverse student populations, primarily latino/a/x/hispanic and anglo, collaborating and working in a dynamic small team environment, and developing and implementing new programs and curriculum. The selected candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, experience utilizing various communication media and technology (e.g. social media, website development tools, databases), and a desire to learn.

The Program Coordinator will be primarily responsible for working with high school students enrolled in the PreCollegiate Program and providing support for the other aspects of the Program.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

-Be responsible for and run the PreCollegiate high school program component for grades 9-12 at an assigned high school (Glenwood Springs, Roaring Fork or Basalt), including directing student meetings, recruitment, coordination and communication.

-Serve as college counselor for enrolled 12th grade PreCollegiate students, including overseeing college applications, financial aid, scholarships, financial packaging, and college selection and matriculation.

-Be the direct student support person for PreCollegiate high school students.

-Serve as the Staff liaison for volunteer mentors in grades 9-12 at the assigned high school.

-Aiding in the planning, preparation and implementation of the PreCollegiate Summer Programs.

-Collaborate with high school teachers, counselors and administration on issues and activities to enrich first-generation student learning.

-Work with Program Staff to create and implement programming to support students in and beyond high school.

-Organize and help present parent and community events to promote a college-going culture.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

- Aid in student data collection and management.

- Help manage social media outreach for the Program.

- Assist in producing Program communications, letters to students and parents.

- Attend Program events and provide fundraising support.

- Perform other tasks in support of the Staff as assigned.

Position Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree preferred.

- Experience with college counseling and advising preferred.

- Bi-lingual in spanish and english (oral and written) preferred.

- Excellent communication, presentation, written and interpersonal skills.

- Experience and passion for working with culturally diverse and socially and economically disadvantaged populations.

- Highly organized and able to work independently to manage multiple priorities and tasks and deliver timely results.

- Team-oriented.

- Ability to reliably travel within the Roaring Fork Valley.

- Ability to attend summer programming during the month of June at partner colleges.

- Ability to remain flexible and adjust to changing priorities.

- Ability to gather and interpret data, and to present and explain data clearly.

- Awareness of the sensitive nature of the work and the need for confidentiality.

- Proficiency with Mac computers and Google Docs.

- Some scheduled evening and weekend work required.

- Knowledge of social media platforms

- Physical demands may involve lifting materials and equipment up to 30 pounds.

- A sense of humor.

Job Location and Salary:

This is a full-time, 204 day contract exempt position within the Roaring Fork School District. The position will be primarily located at the Carbondale District Office, but will require regular travel to and among Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, and Basalt. Salary range is $40-52K.depending on qualifications and experience. RFSD also offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package
