Who We Are
Since its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School ("Challenge Prep") has provided students and families with a successful K-10 program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 900 scholars from Kindergarten to 10th grade. Our school's mission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, to demonstrate mastery of the NYS and Common Core Learning Standards and to achieve their career aspirations. Challenge cultivates and supports the intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional and ethical development of its students and prepares them to be responsible 21st century citizens. To accomplish its mission, Challenge offers a rigorous instructional program in a safe, supportive, technology-infused and data-enriched and social-emotional learning sequence, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and college coursework. It is understood that we are one organization with multiple sites, and it is expected that all members of the team collaborate to support all of our scholars.
Understanding the Role
The STEM Instructional Coach will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. He/she is also responsible for collecting and managing student achievement data systems and serves as a point of contact for the technology team. The instructional coach will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction in response to student and teacher data. In order to fulfill these expectations, the instructional coach will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers in support of the school improvement plan. This position reports to the principal.

Overall Job Goals and Responsibilities:
Serve on School Leadership team; collaborate with team to determine school-wide professional development, curriculum and assessment needs to meet all school goals
Coach and develop teachers to establish the foundations for successful classrooms: ambitious vision and goals, purposeful long-term plans and unit plans, rigorous assessments, strong relationships, and positive classroom cultures
Coach, manage, and develop a caseload of teachers to exceptional student achievement
Observe teachers weekly to gather data on student learning and teacher proficiency to diagnose teachers' strengths and weaknesses constantly and determine strategies for improving their practice and improving student learning; document findings in TeachBoost- Provide a wide variety of learning opportunities for teachers focused on analyzing student work, effective planning, targeted and differentiated instruction, as well as high expectations for classroom culture and behavior
Provide professional development to implement the education program; assist with the development of and oversee the school's new staff orientation
Use data systems to organize and analyze student achievement data; ensure the validity and reliability of student data by attending to the rigor and alignment of assessments.
Use data to inform decision making, to develop and modify curriculum, and to develop targeted and differentiated instruction.
Meet with teachers regularly to discuss data trends; problem solve with teachers to prioritize the teacher actions that will most impact student performance.
Serve as liaison between the leadership team and technology department
Serve as an ongoing advisor to the leadership team in their plans for integrating various technologies, internet resources and software to enhance teaching and learning
Participate in teacher goal/plan setting and evaluation
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal
Job requirements

Strong understanding of rigorous, effective instruction
Ability to analyze data to target instruction and inform decision making
Experience designing and implementing curriculum and assessments aligned with Next Generation Learning Standards
Practical knowledge of data management tools, organizational tools, computer skills
Qualifications
Master's degree in mathematics, science, educational leadership or related field (required)
At least three (2) years of exceptional teaching experience (required)
At least three (3) years of educational leadership experience (preferred)
