The Role:
Following a community driven process that included students, educators, and parents/caregivers, the Cambridge Public Schools is looking for an Incident Response Student Specialist to represent students in navigating incidents of harassment and discrimination. Primarily working out of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS), and serving as a core member of the newly constituted Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, this role will focus on ensuring that students have equitable access to pathways for reporting incidents of harm that occur while attending school.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Serve as primary partner, point of contact, and support for students who have experienced incidents of harassment or discrimination, including racial slurs, microaggressions, and sexual harassment.
  • Communicate with Deans and other members of the CRLS leadership team, as well as members of central administration, to ensure proper follow-up and follow through on student concerns.
  • Provide students with timely updates on the status of their reports, ensuring that they remain informed of progress.
  • Connect students to internal and external resources that prioritize mental health.
Your Skill Set :
As the incoming and founding Incident Response Student Specialist, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following skills and experiences:
  • A firm grasp of trauma and how it manifests in high school age adolescents.
  • Ability to build positive rapport and relationships with high school students.
  • Prior work in conflict resolution or experience with restorative practices.
  • Experience building trusting relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders including young people, parents/caregivers, and educators.
  • Understanding, interest in, or experience collaborating with unions preferred.
  • Experience responding to events that warrant a high level of understanding and appropriate reaction, prioritizing impact over intent.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling preferred.
  • Ability to lead conversations that require a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, and discretion as well as a high degree of comfort speaking candidly and confronting, issues of race and racism, bias, and systemic inequity.
  • An unwavering belief in the capabilities of young people, alongside demonstrated experience advancing decisions that prioritize the best interest of students, rather than the comfort of adults.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and accomplish deadlines; ability to pay attention to accuracy and detail while thinking broadly and within the context of a large high school setting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual or Multilingual preferred.
Salary : $70,200 to $80,200
