Wai‘alae Elementary Public Charter School, a progressive charter elementary education institution in Honolulu, is seeking a collaborative, progressive leader for their Chief Educational Officer (CEO) and Head of School. The CEO will lead and develop a vibrant school full of enthusiastic students and dedicated staff.

Wai‘alae is a student-centered school that honors the whole child and is committed to nurturing a community of learners who strive for excellence and innovation, while empowering all members of the community to actively engage in the greater society.

The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced and thoughtful leader who seeks to make a real difference in the lives of children and the greater community. A skilled and compassionate Education Administrator, with strong leadership, team development skills, and vision, the CEO will empower staff to deliver positive outcomes for all students. Key responsibilities will include providing inspiring leadership aligned with the mission and vision; fostering a positive educational environment by working with students, staff, and community stakeholders; facilitating school and community relations; and promoting academic achievement and professional development.

Qualified individuals will hold a master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or related field and have at least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working with children, preferably in elementary school administration. Doctorate degree in a related field with five (5) or more years of experience preferred. Must be knowledgeable in early learning, social constructivist education practices. A thorough knowledge of and background in early childhood education/child development, and a depth of understanding of indigenous and/or Hawaiian cultural traditions/practices/beliefs desired. Charter school administration, and experience directing or developing teacher and staff development highly preferred.
