NATURE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Coordinator II - Adult Education and Credit Recovery, the Administrative Support Specialist I performs a wide variety of clerical and secretarial duties. Work requires extensive knowledge of school and division policies, procedures, and services and the ability to communicate them to others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma supplemented by business courses and one to three years of successful clerical experience; Associate degree or higher preferred.
START DATE: As soon after selection as possible.
SALARY / STIPEND: Pay Range: $11.78 - $18.84 per hour, depending on experience and advanced degrees. Danville School Board pays the employee cost, in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance. Other benefits - sick leave and personal leave.

NATURE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Coordinator II - Adult Education and Credit Recovery, the Administrative Support Specialist I performs a wide variety of clerical and secretarial duties. Work requires extensive knowledge of school and division policies, procedures, and services and the ability to communicate them to others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares, processes, prints and distributes a variety of documents; some material may be of a confidential nature.
- Answers telephone and provides responses; takes messages as necessary
- Meets and greets all stakeholders and the general public effectively; answers questions and provides information, appropriate
- Receives, opens, and sorts mail; receives, signs for and distributes packages; assists with bulk mailings
- Establishes, collects information for and maintains various school, student, teacher and databases and program files
- Registers new students and maintains cumulative student folder
- Prepares, maintains, and records both electronic and physical, accurate student attendance and discipline records
- Operates a variety of office machines; may maintain inventory of materials, supplies and/or equipment; may serve as first contact for office equipment maintenance.
- Maintains building usage schedule and send HVAC forms to maintenance
- Administers minor first aid in absence of School Nurse
- Prepares and maintains fiscal and related records in collaboration with the School Secretary/Bookkeeper, as applicable
- Schedules meetings and appointments for administrators
- Tracks employee attendance and processes payroll-related documents
- May serve on special and/or regular teams and committees
- May be required to attend court proceedings relative to student attendance/truancy
- May provide occasional direction to temporary or volunteer staff
- Performs related clerical tasks as required or assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to deal effectively with all stakeholders and the general public
- Thorough knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of productivity tools and software, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets
- General knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods and procedures
- Ability to type with good speed and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and creatively
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
- Ability to operate a variety of office machines
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
