Job Description
REPORTS TO:Principal/Special Education Supervisor/Director of Pupil Services

JOB MISSION:To provide targeted assistance to students

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

1.PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
1.1Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other teachers; apply the best research in the design and development of school curriculum.
1.2Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.

2.PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION
2.1Set short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning.
2.2Develop and maintain lesson plans based on short-term and year-long goals and share when appropriate.

3.USE OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
3.1Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning.

4.EFFECTIVENESS OF INSTRUCTION
4.1Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards.
4.2Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.
4.3 Assist with data collection, eligibility criteria and student selection

5.LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
5.1Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and with the teacher, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.
5.2Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.

6.EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
6.1Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
6.2Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings.

7.CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
7.1Be available for student and/or parent conferences.

8.CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOOL AND/OR TEACHING PROFESSION
8.1Work collaboratively to identify areas for school improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.

9.ENFORCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE WITH SCHOOL REGULATIONS
9.1Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the school system.

EVALUATION:Consistent with current Agreement between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.

Welcome to Wolf Swamp Road School!

Wolf Swamp Road School Wolf Swamp Road School serves approximately 415 students in prekindergarten through 5th grade. We offer four half-day preschool sessions and three full-day kindergarten classes as well as three sections in each grade level (1st through 5th). We provide a variety of regular education and special education programs to provide academic support, remediation, and/or enrichment to students based on their individual learning needs. Our art, physical education, library, technology, and music programs (music, band, orchestra, chorus) foster the development of the whole child and complement the classroom curriculum. The mission of Wolf Swamp Road School is to provide a safe, caring, respectful learning community that encourages every child to achieve his or her learning potential. Wolf Swamp Road School is a Responsive Classroom school. The RC approach to teaching emphasizes academic, social, and emotional growth in a strong school community. Every staff member at Wolf Swamp Road School has been trained in the philosophies of Responsive Classroom. An important practice from RC that happens every day at Wolf Swamp is morning meeting. Everyone in the classroom gathers in a circle for twenty to thirty minutes during the school day and proceeds through four sequential components: greeting, sharing, group activity, and morning message. Complimenting our RC approach, we follow the five core competencies of the CASEL framework utilizing the C.A.R.E.S. Acronym to provide explicit instruction in the areas of: cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy and self- control.
