PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and monitor a district wide student health services program in compliance with state law, District policy and effective health practices. Additional responsibilities include delivery of direct nursing services to students and coordination of employee health services and training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). The following are examples of principle duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.
  • Assist staff in identifying student medical needs at school, develop care plans for the students, delegate nursing tasks according to state nursing guidelines, and train staff to carry out these support servicesTrain staff in protocols for students with health conditions that may include the need for catheterization, shots, respiratory therapy, feeding tubes, etc.Acts as a resource person for the district and schools in health-related mattersAssists in identification and observation of students to detect health needsEstablish appropriate screening tests and do referral and follow-up as necessary on studentsConduct and/or supervise school health screeningsConsults with Superintendent, Risk Manager, HR Director, parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school health matters when appropriateFollow up with students having chronic or numerous absences that may be health-relatedMake referrals to health agencies as appropriateDevelop necessary information with regard to individual health problems of students and disseminate this information to those teachers and keep administration advised of these health concernsBy administrative or teacher request, conduct presentations and lessons to students or staff on health-related mattersMonitor any medical treatment and/or medication given to students while attending schoolAdvise on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseasesAssist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schoolsParticipate in health education and safety programs where it is appropriateReview all student and staff accident forms, as requested by administrationAct as liaison agent to local, state and national health agenciesAssist the Administration in implementing District policies and rules, and school improvement effortsAttends district meetings and serves on committees as requestedPerform such other tasks as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration

  • Current valid Oregon Registered Nurse License required, Bachelors degree preferredAbility to act as a resource person for the district and schools in health-related mattersAbility to be cognizant and informed of health problems and concerns of students and staffAbility to submit recommendations that are necessary to better serve student health needsAbility to teach/train staff on health protocols, medical administration, epi-pen administration, best practices, etc.Ability to monitor and supervise that the necessary paperwork for tracking medical procedures, health protocols, etc.Ability to work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements of the jobRequired to provide proof of COVID vaccination.
