  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Illinois Professional Educator License with Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Self-motivated with demonstrated time management and organizational skills

    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Serna and Student Services team

    • Flexible, independent self-starter

    • Strong technology skills

    • Expertise with behavioral and academic interventions

    • Ability to analyze student academic and behavior data for instructional purposes

    • Experience in working with adolescents

    • Express good judgment and ability to build and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student and families and respect other sensitive information

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Serve as case manager for ISP and 504 Plans

    • Serve as case manager for general education students supported through REACH including those receiving academic intervention, within concussion protocol and returning from hospitalization

    • Provide direct support services to students in the Learning Resource classroom setting and the REACH learning center setting

    • Oversee the daily operation of the REACH learning center, including before and after school hours as well as lunch periods

    • Cover the Serna testing center during the proctor's lunch

    • Cover the testing center when the proctor is absent

    • Work collaboratively with teachers, Student Services team and parents

    • Provide ongoing communication and collaboration with teachers regarding all students who are receiving direct services

    • Develop and implement students' educational plans (ISP, 504, concussion plan, intervention plan)

    • Provides faculty and staff with current accommodations information annually

    • Consult with Student Services staff on ISP and 504 Plans

    • Plan and facilitate annual ISP and 504 Meetings

    • Maintain and distribute current 504 and ISP paperwork

    • Respond in a timely manner to parent communication

    • Regularly consult with the Assistant Principal to review student's progress and concerns

    • Monitor grades regularly of all students receiving direct services

    • Provide assistance to individual or groups of students in need

    • Provide progress monitoring and data collection to drive instructional decisions

    • Maintain a positive, well-ordered classroom

    • Adhere to and enforce school rules

    • Develop and implement strategies to meet individual student needs

    • Meet with staff to discuss individual students' needs and progress

    • Meet with parents as needed to review progress and provide guidance

    • Maintain confidentiality within and out of the school setting

    • Maintain appropriate student data to use for development of ISP or 504

    • Provide consultation and professional development on special education topics to staff

    • Attend appropriate workshops to keep current with Special Education best practice

    • Perform other duties/tasks as assigned


    The Learning Resource Teacher is a ten-month position. Attendance is required from 7:30 A.M. until 3:30 P. M. with flexible hours in order to oversee the operation of the REACH before and after school.. In addition, attendance is required at some evening and weekend events: Parent Orientation nights, Back to School Night, Open House, Parent Teacher Conferences, Street Scenes, Freshman Registration Night, Freshmen Proficiency testing, Freshmen Welcome Night and Graduation. Chaperoning at least one activity is required.
