    SummaryTitle: Under the general supervision of the Director and Coordinator of Special Education, develops individualized programming for students with disabilities or physical impairments. The physical therapist assists with improving functional mobility, increasing function through gross motor development, adapting mobility, and positioning equipment and strengthening muscles for functional use.

    Qualifications / Experience
    • Current and valid Physical Therapist license issued from the The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations
    • Previous experience working with EC-8 level students.
    • An interest and/or experience working with students with varying levels/types of disabilities.
    • Expertise in conducting educational assessments and the development of individual educational programs.
    • The ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize student achievement.
    • A willingness to participate in staff development opportunities.
    • A strong commitment to professional excellence.

    Essential Functions
    • Screens, evaluates and monitors students with disabilities or physical mental impairments for the purpose of providing educational programs, therapeutic intervention, and transition and exit planning and enhancing their ability to perform activities of daily living or participate in desired occupations.
    • Provide comprehensive motor and functional mobility evaluations, re-evaluations and assessments.
    • Manage caseload and schedule to meet the diverse needs of students, EC - Grade 8 in locations throughout the district.
    • Formulate goals, objectives, and interventions based on students needs as determined by educational team.
    • Provide intervention in the educational environment.
    • Collaborate with educational team on strategies and techniques to support students educational program (care plans, home program, mobility equipment, positioning and accessibility).
    • Facilitate inclusion of students by promoting independent mobility and access within the educational setting.
    • Offer inservice opportunities to local schools and districts on subjects related to disabilities, positioning and mobility.
    • Supervise physical therapy assistants and clinical affiliates.
    • Assist in solving student transportation problems.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and parents in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs.

    Travel Requirements
    • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
