The Windham Southeast Supervisory Union currently has an opening for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coach for the 2021-2022 school year. This is a district-wide position that functions in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice and reports to and is supervised by the WSESU Diversity Coordinator. The Coach serves as a resource to principals and teachers to support the implementation of the Supervisory Union's commitment to equity and social justice. The Coach will provide leadership in equity and social justice-based instructional practices. The main function of the position is to foster a culture of community, equity, and Inclusion; and support students and staff to address challenges and bolster opportunities that impact student learning by developing teacher capacity and identifying curricular needs to build a more equitable teaching and learning community.
The essential functions of this position include (but are not limited to):
Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop curriculum and instructional practices in K-8; Model effective teaching practices and provide instructional coaching designed to support inclusive classroom environments; Support teachers in understanding the foundational components of a culturally responsive learning environment and integrating these principles into practice; Develop sustainable practices that work to maintain high achievement for all students; Collaborates with the Office of Curriculum and Assessment as well as district and building instructional coaches to design and implement professional development as necessary; Compile resources for use in both classrooms and professional development; Assist with curriculum development; Assist in improving community-wide engagement with diverse populations; Conduct affinity groups a needed; Other duties as assigned.
The required education and experience of this position include:
Education - Master's degree in Education preferred or equivalent experience Eligible for Vermont Agency of Education Endorsement or equivalent licensure
Experience:
Minimum of fie years of experience as a classroom teacher; Demonstrated responsive and effective interactions with diverse groups across race, ethnicity, religion, gender, class, disability, and sexuality; Experience in curriculum development; Experience working with and supporting faculty and staff in a leadership capacity.
The skills and/or abilities required for this position include:
Strong knowledge of pedagogy, including Universal Design for Learning; Commitment to social justice and equity; Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, students,and other stakeholders in both written and verbal forms; Ability to use data to guide instructional planning and coaching; Knowledge of effective coaching practices; Demonstrated skill in organizing ideas; Ability to anticipate potential problems and identify feasible solutions; Ability to quickly understand school climate models such as Developmental Designs and PBIS and integrate them into coaching framework; Ability to attend after school and evening meetings.
