Job Summary

The Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) creates opportunities for parents, schools, families, and communities to work together to create meaningful partnerships that ultimately lead to student achievement.

Under the direction of the Director of Accountability and Engagement, the Senior Project Manager performs a lead role in managing the implementation of large scale projects in support of the CPS mission, and managing the FACE department's activities in support of advancing FACE's mission and vision. The role is responsible for leading all aspects of the project planning and delivery process for a number of strategic projects. This individual will serve as an internal consultant to CPS leadership and support with project management, change management, analytical support, and implementation. The role will be split roughly 80% of time spent on special projects and strategic initiatives and 20% of time will be spent on supporting CPS' Community Action Councils (CAC).

The Senior Project Manager will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

Typical Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Partner with CPS senior leadership to drive forward and advance CPS policies including public policy and board policies
  • Ensure coordination across FACE's units to support district initiatives, including Budget engagements, Annual Regional Analysis, Capital engagements, and other large scale initiatives
  • Manage and cultivate partnerships to support parent engagement efforts
  • Manage the Community Action Council (CAC) Specialist and the relationships and development of CPS' nine CACs
  • Support geographic areas that do not have CACs and set a primer for expansion of the CAC program
  • Enhance cross-departmental collaboration and work streams by integrating structures and processes to ensure alignment within multiple units
  • Drive innovation, best practices, and achievement of strategic objectives to best serve families and communities
  • Lead project timelines and ensure milestones are successfully met through oversight of projects and coordination of resources
  • Facilitate decision-making process for selecting, optimizing, and executing strategic initiatives that align with the CPS vision and mission
  • Communicate the status, risk and issues associated with each project component to senior leadership; ensure that project objectives are met
  • Lead the qualitative analysis of stakeholder feedback including focus groups, surveys, and round table discussions
  • Performs additional duties and ad hoc assignments as assigned


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Senior Project Manager must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college and/or university


Type of Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 7 years in community engagement and project management
  • Experience facilitating training, developing presentations, project management, and leadership


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Ability to successfully lead, manage, and deliver-on multiple high-level projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with all levels of management and staff
  • Ability to motivate and influence others
  • Ability to work with difficult situations with multiple interests/parties involved
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong planning, organization and time management skills
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis, problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Evening and weekend hours are required


Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
