Family Liaison - Glenwood Springs Elementary
The Family Resource Center is seeking a full-time Family Liaison at Glenwood Springs Elementary for the 2021-22 school year and beyond. This position is 40 hours per week and full-time benefits eligible! Pay starts at $17.11/ hr or higher based on experience.

DEFINITION: As part of the family services department, family liaisons strengthen student health, well-being and academic achievement by partnering with families, schools and communities.

PRIMARY DUTIES

1. Assist schools in identifying, and advocating for students who could benefit from community resources (medical, dental, vision, mental health services, enrichment and recreation opportunities, academic assistance, CHP+/Medicaid and other public assistance, etc.), and connecting them to the appropriate resources.

2. Communicate with FRC Program Director regarding student needs and available resources, including funding.

3. Provide orientation to the school and the district for new families. Assist families in enrolling their children in schools.

4. Attend limited professional development and meetings with the English Language Development (ELD) Facilitator, District ELD Team and Family Resource Center Team.

5. Maintain collaboration and communication with school staff, acting as a liaison between children's teachers and their families regarding matters of academics, health and well-being.

6. Bilingual Interpretation and translation as needed between family and school.

7. Act as building Homeless Education Liaison.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual, biliterate, bicultural in Spanish and English

  • Understanding of children with special health care needs

  • Basic understanding of the stages of child development and language development

  • Recognize potentially hostile situations and diffuse situations appropriately.

  • Knowledge of the available community resources

  • Knowledge of various computer programs and technology

  • Principles and procedures for record keeping

  • Principles of business and letter writing and basic report preparation

  • Basic mathematical principles

  • Work efficiently with a service oriented attitude under stressful situations with frequent interruption.

  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

  • Effectively manage time and multiple responsibilities.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Interpret and apply District policies and procedures.

  • Independently prepare correspondence and memoranda.

  • Implement and maintain standard filing system.

  • Ability to develop relationships with a diverse community



EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES
  • Two years of experience working with school age children and their families.

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Supplemental education is preferred.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Two or more years of experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse families



WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Office environment; exposure to computer screens. Travel from site to site.

  • Physical Conditions: This position requires ability to give tours of schools and the community. There will be walking, climbing stairs, and sharing spaces.

  • Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of times; use of computer keyboard.
