The Opportunity
Teacher Resident (22-23)

We are excited to announce that the LCPS Teacher Residency at Alder GSE is accepting applications for its 2022-23 cohort, which will start in the summer of 2022.

LCPS teacher residents are full-time graduate students who are paired with a master mentor teacher at one of our sites (Lighthouse or Lodestar). Teacher residents apprentice 4 days a week under their mentor and then engage in additional coursework and seminars one day per week to earn their Master's degree and CA teaching credential within one year.
  • Apprentice four days a week with one of the best teachers in your residency school by serving as a teacher resident in their classroom.
  • Learn within a cohort of peers with whom you will work all year.
  • Complete all graduate coursework and licensure requirements to earn a Master's degree and a preliminary teaching credential within the residency year.
  • Grow your practice through one-on-one observation and dialogue with the Director of Teacher Residency.
  • Engage in critical conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion with your mentor, instructors, and peers.
  • Residents receive priority consideration for a full-time position upon successfully completing the program.

Available credentials include:
  • Multiple Subject (K-8): Teaching in an elementary self-contained, interdisciplinary expedition, or multiple subject middle school setting.
  • Single Subject (6-12): Teaching English, Math, Science or Social Studies in a middle or high school setting.
  • Special Education: Mild/Moderate in either self-contained or push-in/pull-out resource specialist roles.
  • High Priority will be given to candidates seeking credentials in hard to staff areas and an additional scholarship is available for candidates who go into hard to fill credentials.
    • Hard to Fill Credential Areas are: Single Subject Math, Single Subject Science, and Special Education.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • BA/BS completed by the summer of 2022, required
  • Cumulative GPA 3.0 or above on last 60 semester/90 quarter units, preferred (if lower will need to submit an appeal for GSE admission)
  • Desire to serve students by becoming a credentialed teacher
  • Experience working with underserved youth or in urban educational settings preferred
  • Eligible to work in the US


SUPERVISION:

All LCPS teacher residents are supervised by the Director of Teacher Residency for LCPS and Envision.

TIME COMMITMENT:

This is a year-long program, including courses during summer 2022. Throughout the school year (10-month school year, 190 days) residents are required to attend courses one day per week and apprentice 4 days per week following school building hours of 8am-4pm M, Tu, Th, Fri and 8am-5pm on Wednesdays. Exact graduate school calendar to be shared upon acceptance.

LIVING STIPEND & EXPENSES:

Residents are classified as full-time students, not school employees. A living stipend of $20,000 with no LCPS funded health benefits is available to all residents. Tuition for Alder GSE is $20,000 and most residents are eligible for federal grants and loans to cover some to all tuition costs. Tuition assistance scholarships will be awarded to some residents after assessing need and scholarship fund availability.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HARD TO FILL & PELL GRANT RECIPIENTS AVAILABLE!

A one-time scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded to any resident who chooses to teach and is matched with a mentor in a hard to fill credential area (Math, Science, or Special Education). Additionally, any resident who is Pell Grant eligible will be awarded a one-time scholarship of $1,000.
