Role Mission:

The Director of 5-8 Math will ensure that VCP continually improves our model for instructional excellence in regard to student outcomes, effectiveness of middle school mathematics instruction, and strategic support of all middle school students and staff, in partnership with the Senior Director of Curriculum, middle school principals and the Navigator Math program. The Director of 5-8 Math will combine a capacity for systems-level and strategic thinking, deep math content and instructional knowledge, careful attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills in building relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders. The Director of 5-8 Math will report to the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instruction for all work with Navigator Math, but may additionally report to middle school principals for any school-based Responsibilities.

Your Impact:

• Serve as network lead for Navigator Middle School Math Program,
o Develop 5 th -8 th grade Math teachers through live coaching and weekly observation/ debrief sessions;
o Plan and lead Intellectual Prep meetings related to Grade 5-8 Math
o Lead monthly Navigator Stepback meetings with the network SDCI, Middle school Principals and Navigator coaches
o Actively participate in weekly meetings with your Navigator coach and in all Navigator PDs
o Plan and lead all Navigator math PD for 5-8 staff; and
o Be accountable for 5-8 students' mastery of academic standards in math.
• Own the coordination and administration of all internal and external assessments in VCP middle schools. These Responsibilities include:
o Create or review all internal math assessments for grades 5-8, including interim assessments, unit assessments and bi-weekly quizzes, and ensure that all required assessments are accessible by teachers;
o Coordinate testing schedule for all internal assessments and state testing for middle school campuses;
o Oversee middle school state testing administration for AZMerit, AZSci and AZELLA, including by not limited to teacher training, testing make-up, and room preparation;
o Lead student achievement data analysis conversations to critically and strategically respond to the learning needs of students;
• Support school-based teams as needed and as directed by the principal. These Responsibilities include:
o Work to continuously improve effectiveness in instructional practices of all team members, using school's teacher performance rubric as a guide;
o Communicate effectively and proactively with students, families, and colleagues, with particular emphasis on serving as a communication channel among teachers and members of the leadership team;
o Support school culture by holding teachers accountable for upholding VCP's mission and vision through conversations and consulting the Principal for best practices in managing or mediating difficult conversations;
o Be accountable for students' mastery of academic standards in math; and,
o Participate in annual three-week staff training, leading and supporting sessions as assigned.
• Collaborate with the Network Support Team to ensure that schools are receiving necessary instructional supports and that priorities are being fully executed on each campus
o Build a strong organizational culture that is aligned with VCP Core Observable Behaviors and leadership traits and ensures that all schools are successful
o Problem-solve solutions to challenges common to all schools in network
o Support the execution of VCP's strategic plan and ensure key targets are met, facilitating additional professional development (i.e. sessions, 1:1s, experiences, etc) when necessary

Your Qualifications:

• Passionate commitment to the mission of Vista College Prep;
• Mastery of and enthusiasm for mathematics and instructional coaching;
• Track record of producing dramatic, demonstrable student achievement gains or comparable results in current field;
• Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail and follow-through;
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree preferred;
• Minimum of four years leading or coaching leaders in urban public school setting preferred, but not required;
• Experience as a Dean, AP, or equivalent leadership role and/or at a high-performing charter school highly preferred but not required;
• Spanish proficiency or fluency preferred, but not required;
• Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.
