Department Description:

Under general direction, incumbent is responsible for providing supervision of all Security Investigator/Counselors, providing investigating assistance to them, conducting special investigations requested by the Department of Security Services and serving as the liaison with local law enforcement agencies and with senior members of the Prince George 's County Public School staff; does related work as required.

This is responsible, first line supervisory work in the accomplishment of security policies and procedures of Prince George 's County Public Schools and the Department of Security Services. This position differs from that of Security Investigator/Counselor in that the incumbent must be able to handle complicated and sensitive matters as to reflect favorably upon the school system. An employee in this class is subject to be call to work during weekends and after normal working hours.

This is an ASASP Unit III Table 900 position Grade 27

Salary Range: $52,703 - $121,641

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Provides field supervision for all Security Investigator/Counselors; furnishes security consultative services to Security Investigator/Counselors on current and recent investigations; may lead investigations or provide assistance to Security Investigator/Counselors;
  • Conducts special investigations as required by the Director or Assistant Chief of Security Services for Operations;
  • Provides supervision of contracted guard services utilized for Evening and Adult High School programs;
  • Establishes and perpetuates point of contact liaison with local law enforcement agencies in order to facilitate communications and cooperation;
  • Serves as liaison with senior school system staff members, usually at the Assistant Superintendent level;
  • Supervises the Department of Security Services in the absence of the Director of Assistant Chief of Security Services for Operations; and
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Ability to establish, implement and coordinate investigations involving students, teachers, senior staff members and parents;
  • Ability to assume responsibility and act independently;

  • Ability to assign and supervise the work of others;
  • Ability to express ideas and recommendations both orally and in writing;
  • Mature judgment;
  • Physically able to do the work;
  • Ability to qualify for and obtain a Maryland State Police Commission; and
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Considerable experience in investigative techniques; demonstrated supervisory capability; graduation from a standard high school; successful completion of the police academy and college training in criminal justice; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
