Our schools will be operating in-person for all staff and students for the 2021-2022 school year. Our schools are co-located in DOE buildings and will be following NYC protocols, which include mandated vaccinations. Our protocols will be updated as necessary based on changes in NYC protocols or additional CDC directives.

Mission

New Visions Charter High Schools (NVCHS) provide all students, regardless of their previous academic history, the highest quality education in an atmosphere of respect, responsibility and rigor. We ensure that our students have the skills and knowledge to graduate ready for college, pursue a career, and engage with the 21st century economy. We develop learning experiences that allow risk-taking, cultivate students' imaginative and creative abilities, and celebrate achievement. Through an intensive study of math concepts in our math and science schools, and literature, English, social studies and arts in our humanities schools, students learn how to generate research questions, develop the skills necessary to answer those questions, create products that demonstrate understanding, and defend their knowledge publicly.
Position Summary

The Dean Associate is responsible for providing open and consistent lines of communications with the student body, parents, and the community. As a member of the School Support Teams, the Assistant Dean fosters a positive and collaborative environment to promote the success of every student.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in supervising student entrance/dismissal, locker rooms, lunchroom and hallway duty as needed under the direction of the Dean and or other appropriate staff members
  • Assist in maintaining adherence to the school code of conduct and uniform policy
  • Assist in meetings with students' parents/guardians and teachers, and ensures that responses for infractions are fairly and consistently implemented throughout the school
  • Identifies patterns of misbehavior and coordinates appropriate measures as needed with the Dean and School Counselors; responds to acute behavioral issues; coordinates in-school and out-of-school suspensions, ensuring regulatory compliance; and oversees school safety
  • Support the school-wide use of tools for reporting and documenting infraction data and other information, in order to ensure that proper records are kept and timely data are generated for staff review
  • Serve as a resource to teachers on issues of school culture, classroom management, discipline, and relationships with students; and help teachers and staff in holding all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations
  • Assist in the implementation of behavior management tools, including facilitating staff training in behavior management policies, techniques, strategies, and related data, as well as ensuring the consistent use of chosen strategies in classrooms throughout the school
  • Assist in implementing programs that recognize and reward students; support school-wide procedures and protocols in response to academic and behavioral needs of students, and support teachers and administration in the administration in their enforcement of school-wide policies on a consistent basis
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, Associates Degree Preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, Bilingual preferred
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Google docs and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel
  • Ability to perform general office management tasks including maintaining student discipline records
Experience
  • Demonstrated success working with students and families
  • At least 1 year experience working in a school or youth development environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience and zeal for working in an entrepreneurial school environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines with the ability to think and act strategically
