PURPOSE OF JOB
Family Support Teachers work to connect students, families, schools and the Kansas City Virtual Academy during a student's quarantine period by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines
or requirements of state and school.
Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to classes and/or individual groups of students. .
Prepares, administers, corrects tests, and records results as needed.
Assigns lessons, corrects assignments, and hears oral presentations as needed.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training
workshops.
Maintains order in the virtual classroom.
Counsels pupils and parents when adjustment and academic problems arise.
Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school.
Maintains a virtual classroom.
Provide intervention and academic support as needed.
Maintain communication with all stakeholders.
Connects students with a virtual instructor for the duration of quarantine.
Provides students with links to gain access to live classroom sessions.
Communicates with all stakeholders on the progress and status of students in quarantine, including special services when needed.
Support families and students with technology and assist students with navigating the virtual environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Elementary or Secondary Education from four-year College or University.
Missouri State Certification in Elementary Education
SUCCESS FACTORS
Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching
Elementary or Secondary level students.
Teaching experience in urban schools.
Proficiency in various technology tools such as Microsoft Suites, Google Suites, Virtual
Classrooms, Digital Curriculum and technology/curriculum integration.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The
employees frequently are required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 work days
Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided.
KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
