Middle School Librarian
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a School Media Specialist (Librarian) or relevant role
- Comprehensive knowledge of current pedagogical skills and teaching and management methodologies
- Experience working with children with a wide range of needs
- Valid New York State certification in subject area (or working towards certification)
- Experience preferred
- Strong skills with technology
- Familiar with databases and research
- Strong communication skills
- Work collaboratively with staff and students
- Ability to teach media literacy
- Familiar with 21 st century ALA Learning Standards
- Create and promote literacy throughout the building and community
Essential Duties:
Educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of needs, gifts and talents. You will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote the growth of our students, which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Assess children's skills and learning requirements
- Assess students' abilities and craft teaching plans
- Adapt learning materials to meet students' needs
- Collaborate with Special Education and related service teachers in implementing
- Monitor children's behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions as needed
- Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict
- Prepare students for transition to the next grade
- Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors and speech therapists) to create holistic intervention plans
- Assist the administration in implementing all District policies and/or building regulations and procedures governing student life and conduct
- Attend scheduled meetings; serve on District and building committees
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, by District policy, regulations and building procedures
- Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars and conferences
- Perform other duties as required by Building Principal and/or District Administrator
