The Essex Westford School District is seeking a Computer Technician/User Support Specialist to perform a variety of specialized computer installation and support functions at Essex High School and Center for Technology, Essex. This position also serves as a resource to classroom teachers and the educational technology team to integrate technology in the classroom in support of student learning. This position serves as a part of a school's ecosystem, working closely with staff. A strong commitment to customer service, attention to detail, and organizational skills are keys to success.

This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, for 12-months per year.. EWSD offers excellent benefits including paid time off, medical and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plan with up to 6% employer contribution, and tuition reimbursement.

Position responsibilities include:
  • Install and perform repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
  • Install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages
  • Install, assemble and configure computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, document cameras, docks and other related hardware
  • Troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, email, network and peripheral equipment problems; make repairs and corrections where required.
  • Act as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data; implements solution or notify outsource providers as required. Actively check in with teachers and staff, being proactive about discovering and resolving technology issues that arise.
  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems in classrooms. (e.g. cleaning and maintenance).
  • Maintain and update district technology hardware inventory (in KACE, our current inventory system).
  • Process support requests using ticketing software and keep detailed records of problems and their corresponding resolutions, referring major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or service technicians.
  • Staff a centralized help desk to facilitate exchange of information and advice as requested.
  • Connect, disconnect, and move all technology related equipment.
  • Create support documentation for staff on how to properly use district software or devices.
  • Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
  • Assist in developing procedures for common technology tasks, and adheres to them in daily tasks.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers, faculty, staff, administrators and students under the direction of the Director of Technology and Innovation.
  • Assist Network Administrators with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems.

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
  • Minimum of two years of directly related experience, including computer network experience. Technology integration in schools is preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with PowerSchool SIS helpful but not required.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals such as central processing units, servers, monitors, cables, network systems, printers, and other current hardware technologies.
  • Knowledge and ability to install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair applicable software, hardware and peripherals.
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot and solve hardware and software problems.
  • Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, projectors, large display monitors/ TVs and other media systems.
