Join National Heritage Academies (NHA) as a Communications Specialist. This position will report directly to the Director of Communications.
The communications specialist will use their knowledge of public relations strategies and tactics to elevate the position of National Heritage Academies-partner schools in communities across the United States. This position entails using out-of-the-box-style thinking, coupled with a keen eye for detail, and advanced editing and writing skills to support school leadership with their communications needs.
The communications specialist reports to the director of communications and works out of our Service Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. This individual will be joining a dynamic team, in a fast-paced environment, and is responsible for identifying and sharing the good news stories that highlight our schools, staff, and students.

Your Role
  • Coordinate media advisories, press releases, and blog and social media posts.
  • Create and implement public relations campaigns that support school initiatives.
  • Develop website content using a sharp understanding of Key Words and SEO.
  • Provide editing and proofreading support.
  • Assist in the management of and response to media queries.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of an editorial calendar.
  • Assist in the management of project metrics.
  • Assist in the creation of crisis communications responses.
  • Manage multiple projects and requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Think big picture while accomplishing day-to-day tasks.
  • Be well-read on topics affecting education - specifically charter school, K-12, and virtual education - today.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and customer service-oriented approach to your work.
  • Research topics as assigned by the director of communications.
  • Other communications duties as assigned by the director of communications.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or public relations.
  • 2 plus years of relevant communications experience.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Expert understanding of AP Style.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Capacity to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be a self-starter who possesses a can-do attitude.
  • Desire to continuously improve skill sets.
