Start Date: Immediate

The Program Associate will be responsible for delivering Facing History and Ourselves’ program services for school and district agreements across the state of California, fostering relationships with education administrators and related organizations, developing support for administrators choosing Facing History, as well as general support for Facing History educators.

The Program Associate will co-facilitate professional development workshops and seminars, cultivate and document relationships and communications with educators, educational leaders and key constituencies, recruit new schools and districts to explore and implement Facing History and Ourselves, give special attention to educational trends and factors specific to CA, and manage events or initiatives on a case-by-case basis. Up to 50% travel within the state required for CA districts and organizational initiatives.

Who we are

Facing History in California currently operates out of two geographic centers, Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area. This role will be critical in developing greater attention to statewide service for the state. There are currently small program teams in both regions, working together to reach and support educators across the state. The California teams are part of a matrixed organization headquartered in Boston.

We are passionate educators and care deeply about our community. Innovative and entrepreneurial, we constantly look for better ways to serve our teachers, our schools, and their students. We have sought and continue to prioritize building a team that represents the diversity of our state. We work closely together and depend on clear communication, commitment to each other as a team, and a positive energy.

Who you are

You share our passion for education, youth and the community, with an attention to equity and inclusion. You bring your substantial education and school/district administration experience and unique perspective to make us stronger together. You thrive in a team environment, bringing both strong collaboration skills and independent initiative. You are comfortable using technological tools to engage and strengthen relationships internally and externally. You have a constant curiosity, and an appreciation for all of Facing History's core case studies.

You are confident engaging in conversations that explore identity, social emotional learning, equity/inclusion/belonging, and civic engagement, as well as the destructive forces of racism, antisemitism, and collective violence. You are equally comfortable building relationships and facilitating educational spaces in-person and online, and you seek to be part of a team which is making a positive impact on education across California.
