Position Summary:
The Director of Instruction is responsible for providing leadership and vision in the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review and evaluation of the school's curriculum and instructional services, federal programs, career and technical education services, assessment, research and evaluation services. Responsibilities also include implementing professional development programs to teachers, administrators and support staff that are designed to enhance the skills of faculty relevant to their positions.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Creates and implements school educational objectives and instructional practices that are aligned with NYSED frameworks and yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive curriculum plan
  • Supervises the administration and analysis of all curricular programs, including the creation of an annual progress monitoring/assessment calendar
  • Oversees and assists education staff with the collection and interpretation of student data
  • Coaches educators in instructional practices to meet the needs of a diverse student population - observes instructional practices, provides feedback and models instruction to teachers
  • Plans, organizes and delivers training for employees by collaborating with teachers, administrators and staff on the development and implementation of school-wide training strategies for new technologies.
  • Provides professional development and updates on curriculum implementation, time lines, and assessment changes
  • Manages special education programming and stays knowledgeable and up-to-date about those requirements
  • Effectively integrates technology into subject areas to promote students new opportunities for learning, and as a tool for ways students may collaborate and create
  • Monitors professional development results (e.g. course outcomes, training staff, etc.) ensuring that performance outcomes are achieved within budget, department, and School objectives
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
  • Researches a variety of information, (e.g. courses, materials, training consultants, etc.) developing new programs that meet staff training needs
  • Endorses and actively promotes the mission of the Stanley G. Falk School
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Superintendent
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Master's degree or Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS)
  • SAS, SDA, SBL, or SDL - District Level Certification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching
  • Experience implementing curriculum guidelines
  • Working knowledge of writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans
  • Resourceful, self-directed instructional leader and learner
  • Apple technology knowledgeable preferred
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and current issues involved with conducting professional development
  • Excellent instructional delivery techniques and the ability to coach and train students, teachers and administrators in effective instructional techniques and strategies
  • Demonstrated skills in workshop presentation, teambuilding techniques, and small/large group facilitation. Must possess the ability to design and present training materials and programs for both staff and students
  • Excellent human relations, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and employees at all levels of the division to include administrators and teachers
