    Outdoor Learning Teacher

    Job Summary:

    Build and lead a comprehensive outdoor learning program at Eno Valley Elementary School, including teaching hands-on outdoor lessons daily to grades preK-5, conducting formal professional development to staff, building and maintaining outdoor learning environments, and collaborating with school and community partners.

    Summary of Job Responsibilities:
    • Develop and implement engaging and effective year-round hands-on outdoor educational programming for all students and all teachers that aligns with NC Essential Standards as well as Durham Public Schools Strategic Plan and Eno Valley's goals

    • Beyond academic goals , inspire a community of environmentally literate citizens who demonstrate stewardship and an authentic passion for learning about and enjoying the natural world

    • Work with teachers and curriculum specialists to align outdoor education curriculum to in-classroom content

    • Conduct formal professional development to staff enduring their use of outdoor lessons

    • Connect with community partners including Out Teach, Durham Innovative Nutrition Education program (DINE), West Point on the Eno, Farmer Foodshare, Inter Faith Food Shuttle to build garden and nutrition education outdoors and the Hub Farm

    • Collaborate with Hub Farm staff to offer programming and community building opportunities on-site at the Hub Farm

    • Outreach to the school families and community through outdoor themed school-wide events

    • Build and maintain Eno Valley's outdoor education library, supplies, and equipment through grant writing and donations

    • Design, build, and maintain a variety of outdoor learning environments (OLEs), including the enclosed central courtyard, playground, and other forest and open space around Eno Valley

    • Conduct measurement and evaluation of learning outcomes

    • Maintain Risk assessments related to outdoor learning spaces and activities

    • Ensure every student at Eno Valley has an opportunity for outdoor experiential education throughout the school year


    Required Qualifications:
    • Teaching Degree, Elementary Credentials/or pursuing Residency Licensure

    • CPR/AED, First-aid and Epi credentials

    • Ability to navigate up to 2 miles on uneven surfaces, carry 50 lbs and tolerate a variety of weather conditions including hot, cold, snow and rain


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience working with groups of youth outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

    • Experience engaging diverse audiences in hands-on education programs

    • Experience writing grants and seeking donations

    • NC Environmental Education Certification

    • WFA or WFR certification
