POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Innovation & Redesign is responsible for leading the exploration and development of promising
innovative practices supporting the district's goal of driving improved outcomes for students. Diving deeply into
district analytic systems and tools, the director uses data-informed processes to drive innovative thinking to enhance
or replace existing structures to accelerate the pace of improved student outcomes. The director actively seeks out,
curates, and presents research-supported innovation using a differentiated approach to address gaps in achievement
at the student, school, and district levels. The director builds and maintains relationships with stakeholders and
community partners to foster a culture of diversity and inclusivity to optimize innovation. The director purposefully
advances the district's commitment to equity through innovation and redesigning existing conventional, barriercreatingstructures, bringing pioneering practice to the forefront from incubation to scale. Working cross-functionally,the director participates in collaborative teams as the voice of innovation, validated by real-time data, fortified bycurrent research, and strengthened by shared expertise to increase the speed of change for the benefit of everystudent in every school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Leads the exploration, implementation, and evaluation of innovative, pedagogically driven practices to improve
outcomes for every student in every school
• Continuously mines and curates research to present understandable and actionable solution-oriented innovations
at the school and district level
• Analyzes current practice to evaluate opportunities to accelerate improvement through innovation and redesign
• Cultivates and maintains community partners and engages stakeholders to generate resources and support diverse
and inclusive thought partners in innovative practice.
• Researches emerging practices and programs within and outside public education to generate thoughtful, creative,
productive recommendations for innovation and redesign
• Collaborates in cross-functional teams to harness the power of specialized expertise so that every student and every school benefits from the collective talent and wisdom of the entire organization
• Identifies new and existing examples of successful strategies positively impacting student achievement to guide
expansion, replication, and evaluation of those practices
• Develops the policies, processes, systems, and structures needed for innovation to thrive and scale.
• Uses oral and written communication effectively to clearly express and explain the processes for implementation
and evaluation of innovation and redesign and investigate and accurately relate what results are actually attained
fully.
• Generates plans and policies for improved agility, with a sense of urgency, to drive change and sustain innovation
over time
• Provides direct guidance and support at the school and district level to provide expertise and resources to
implement identified innovations successfully
• Prepares reports and conducts presentations at the school and district level to share analytics, research, and
evaluation of innovation and redesign efforts
• Explores research and existing models of technological innovation, alternative learning environments, extended
learning environments, assessment, and personalized learning and presents summaries of findings and guidance for
targeted implementation
• Supervises coordinators to ensure that identified needs and resources are addressed with speed and agility at the
school level to support student outcomes
• Evaluates needs for professional development to achieve implementation of innovation and redesign systems
• Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person
during regular business hours, and as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative

Requirements :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
? Master's degree in curriculum and instruction, school leadership, or a related field is required
? Specialist degree or higher preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
? Georgia Professional Certification, Level 5 or higher in Educational Leadership, or ability to obtain within 12 months
? Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation, or ability to attend off-site meetings

WORK EXPERIENCE:
? 5 years of experience teaching in an urban school district required, plus
? 5 years of school leadership or central office leadership experience directly managing and leading a team
responsible for large-scale initiatives in an urban school district, including experience with school turnaround
and/or improvement initiatives
? Recent experience with school accountability measures and data analysis
? Experience in staff development, data-driven decision-making, data analysis, research design, and program
evaluation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
? Demonstrated success leading innovation and redesign efforts
? Understanding of applied design thinking to imagine, explore, develop, and implement innovation from prototype
to scale
? Deep knowledge and experience with andragogy
? Strong planning, organization, and project management skills
? Exceptional internal and external stakeholder engagement skills, ability to identify, build and maintain essential
partnerships
? Commitment to precision, detail orientation, and high-quality results
? Results-driven leader with a commitment to exceeding expectations
? Knowledge of the principles, practices, and current issues in public school innovation and redesign
? Knowledge of current trends in teacher, leader, organizational, and staff capacity building
? Ability to analyze and respond to district and school data with urgency and focus
? Strong knowledge of high-quality instructional practices and the ability to lead others to replicate or scale existing or
innovative practice
? Deep understanding of the urban school system environment and commitment to improving student achievement
? Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
? Effective oral and written communication skills
? Proficient ability with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and similar programs

Compensation :

Salary Grade: 137

Salary Range: FY'21 APS Salary Schedule (All Positions)
