FULL TIME (8 hours/day 7:30 am - 4:00 pm)

JOB GOAL:

To assist the school nurse; to administer health services to students and staff according to District policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of one of the following: Emergency Medical Technician Level 1 course with passing grade; or Medical Assistant course with passing guide; or three credit hour college course in First Aide with passing grade.
  3. Applicants who have not worked in a health related job within the last three years will be required to complete the 3 credit hour college course on First Aid.
  4. Current CPR certification.
  5. Knowledge of and adheres to all policies, regulations and rules.
  6. Ability to work well with students, staff and parents; good verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of records and communications.
  8. Ability to accept limitation of responsibility; ability to follow protocol when administering care.
  9. Knowledge of immunization requirements according to Arizona State Law.
  10. Must obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
  1. Prioritize and deliver first aid and emergency care to students and staff according to District policies.
  2. Administer medications per parent consent and District guidelines with an understanding of possible side effects.
  3. Perform special medical procedures (i.e. asthma treatments, diabetes monitoring, injection of epinephrine for severe allergic reactions).
  4. Perform special health care treatments as delegated and demonstrated by parent.
  5. Perform and assist nurse with student health screenings of vision, height/weight, dental, pediculosis and scoliosis.
  6. Document student and staff treatments and parent interactions.
  7. Prepare and maintain health records; maintain confidentially.
  8. Evaluate immunization records; advised parents of additional doses needed; track suspension dates.
  9. Understand CPS reporting protocol and communicate with nurse in appropriate situations.
  10. Prepare and distribute instructional materials as directed by school nurse.
  11. Maintain and order office supplies and equipment.
  12. Organize and maintain health office.
  13. Prepare re-screen list for R.N.
  14. Prepare and send referrals and follow-up at R.N. direction.
  15. Complete accident reports clearly and concisely for all accidents.
  16. Participate in in-service training programs and faculty meetings.
  17. Report any unsafe environmental conditions in the building or grounds to the principal.
  18. Follow universal precautions and infection control procedures at all times.
  19. Compiles periodic and year end reports for school and district.
  20. Arrange parent conferences for special health problems or needs with R.N.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms, stand, bend or stoop. The employee is frequently required to move about the campuses and to drive to the schools and departments in the District. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 Days OR 245 Days; Vacation Days: per policy GDD.
General Leave Days: per policy GDCA

COMPENSATION: Classified Salary Schedule, Salary Grade Level: G

BENEFITS: As per District policy.
REPORTS TO: Nurse or Principal

EVALUATION: Initial evaluation to be completed no later than ninety (90) days after first day of work; thereafter, annually by supervisor.

HOURS: 40 hours per week

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
