NATURE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Principal and Lead School Support Paraprofessional, the School Support Paraprofessional provides general assistance to principals and staff in the daily operation of the school; assists the School Nurse with reaching out to people (contacts) who have been exposed to or tests positive for COVID-19 and providing information and guidance to interrupt ongoing disease transmission.

This position is grant-funded under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year only.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General Support Duties


  • Assists the principal and school staff whenever possible in meeting the general needs of students and staff
  • Operates office machines that are necessary for preparation of materials
  • Prepares materials in the most time-efficient manner
  • Follows the directions of the teacher, principal, and/or school nurse
  • Uses time wisely so that materials are ready when needed
  • Consults with the teacher and/or principal concerning behavioral expectations for students
  • Supervises students in the hallways and bathrooms, on playgrounds, and at rest time in a safe, structured, and positive manner that supports the expectations of the teacher and/or principal
  • Supervises students in non-instructional situations in the manner prescribed by the teacher and/or principal
  • Uses time efficiently in working with individual or groups of students so that each child is provided assistance as needed


COVID-19 Support Duties


  • Answers calls, provides information to callers, routes calls as appropriate, take clear & concise messages and contacts appropriate staff to promote effective communications
  • Prepare and mail correspondence to parents and employees, as directed by the school nurse and/or principal
  • Maintain student and employee confidentiality and ensure that all information is collected in concordance with local data privacy and confidentiality standards
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the school nurse and principal to complete contact notification and monitoring assignments in an efficient manner. Inform the team and supervisor when attempts to communicate with a contact are unsuccessful. Elevate complex situations to the school nurse or principal for further guidance
  • Monitor isolation rooms with students awaiting pick up by parents and guardians
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, emotional intelligence
  • Ability to interact in a non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and persons experiencing a wide range of social conditions
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment in responding to client issues and concerns

  • Proficiency with use of computers (desktop, laptop, tablet)
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite
  • Proficiency with use of mobile devices (smartphones, mobile apps)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet one of the following criteria to be hired: 1) completion of at least two (2) years of study at a four-year college or university (official transcripts required); OR 2) attainment of an Associate degree in any field (official transcripts required); OR 3) passing the Educational Testing Service's (ETS) Parapro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher (official ETS score report required). Experience in a human services related field is preferred.

START DATE: As soon as possible after selection
SALARY / STIPEND: Pay Rate: $15.02 per hour; Danville School Board pays the employee cost in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and health insurance. Other benefits - sick leave and personal leave.
