Job Description

We are looking for highly dedicated educators who will bring an unwavering commitment to helping early childhood children succeed. KIPP DC's early childhood lead teachers are responsible for using Tools of The Mind, Reading Workshop, and My Math curriculums to deliver effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction producing unmatched academic results and student growth. KIPP DC gives its early childhood students an intensive foundation in the core academic subjects, through play-based learning instruction with an emphasis on developing the social and emotional skills necessary to succeed in school and in life. The KIPP DC community holds itself to high standards, cognizant that success can be achieved by all, regardless of challenging circumstances, through team work, tenacity and focused dedication.

Early childhood teachers at KIPP DC work to develop a desire for learning in our youngest students. We are looking for creative and passionate teachers to work in our PreK3, PreK4, and Kindergarten classrooms. KIPP DC's early childhood schools believe in using language, play, and authentic learning activities to provide our students with the foundation to build a successful and choice-filled life.

KIPP DC has six early childhood schools:

Floating Early Childhood Teacher Specifics:

The Floating Early Childhood Teacher is a full-time teaching role at KIPP DC that requires flexibility, adaptability and a love for new opportunities. Folks who join KIPP DC as a floater are full-time employees and they have the same access to salary, benefits, coaching, professional development, and resources as any other full-time staff member. The only difference with this role is the consistency in placement. The Floating Teacher will be placed at one school to start the school year. The Floating Teacher could be a second or third hands on deck in a classroom, or they may be filling in when teaching staff are out on leave at that school. As the school year progresses, the Floating Teacher may be asked to go to another school to support in a classroom or to cover another long-term leave. Once a vacancy does open, Floating Teachers are the first folks considered for those spots. Once placed, the Floating Teacher will receive an updated offer to reflect the school and grade level. We always make sure to consider each person's interest and experience before asking them to transition to any school or role. Over the past several years all of our floating or general staff have continued to work with KIPP DC in more permanent positions. These folks were either placed midyear or for the upcoming school year. This is a great opportunity for folks to learn about KIPP's curriculum, culture, and community before taking on their own classroom.
