Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of these contractual positions is to Serve on a regional crisis response and clinical support team to provide on-site mental health services and support to students, local school system staff, and other mental health professionals to meet the mental health needs of students who are in crisis.

POSITION DUTIES

Provide direct clinical mental health supports for students and families who present in a crisis including de-escalation and crisis planning. Counsel students and their families on issues as appropriate, including referrals. Engage the family or caretaker and community agencies to address needs of the family to de-escalate the situation, make a crisis plan, and enlist cooperation with suggested treatment. Identify and create resources related to helping families and schools manage crises. Serve as a liaison between families and Student Support Teams (SSTs) by meeting with parents/guardians in home and community environments for the purpose of assessing areas that interfere with students' capacity to receive and/or benefit from instruction. Provide professional development and resources to local school system staff and other mental health professionals. Identify and create resources to assist families and manage school crises. Assist local school system and crisis response and clinical support team with problem-solving, prevention, and early intervention services and strategies that promote student success. Work with local school system leadership, administrators, and school staff in identifying professional development needs, and conducts related professional development programs. Demonstrate an understanding of child development, effective instructional practices, and behavior support. Collaborate with crisis response and clinical support team members to problem solve and identify prevention and early intervention strategies for student success. Communicate appropriate information to community care providers in the continuum of care. Support interventions to address students with chronic absenteeism and non-engagement issues. Conduct and/or consult with school-based staff teachers to provide focused trauma-based individual, group or whole school interventions to promote classroom guidance lessons social-emotional wellness. Document assessment and interventions in adherence with procedures. Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings with administrators and school staff. Serve as regional member of the Maryland crisis response and clinical support team initiative.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: A Master's Degree or equivalent 36 post baccalaureate credit hours of coursework in Education, Education Administration/Supervision, Educational Research, Education Policy. Graduation from accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW). Possession of a Social Worker license issued by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners (LCSW-C)

EXPERIENCE: One year of experience with preparing and monitoring operational budgets, fiscal management, and/or performing financial / compliance audits of a state agency, grantee, business or other entity. Experience in or affiliated with an education program, including two years of experience coordinating or administering an education program directly related to the position; fiscal experience in or affiliated with education programs is preferred.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with teams in schools. At least two years as a school social worker recommended. Experience in providing professional development to teachers and staff.
