JOB DESCRIPTION: (Summary)
The primary responsibility of the restorative justice specialist is to facilitate restorative practices in the school setting specifically with the BIP population
The restorative justice specialist will assist administration, classroom teachers, and other school staff in developing and implementing strategies to address the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students in the school setting within the practices of restorative justice

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Associate Degree or 48 college credits, or passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Test.A certificate of completion of an approved teacher assistant training program, in addition to one of the above.A demonstrated ability to successfully intervene with students exhibiting behavioral challenges.Completion of the teacher assistant training for behaviorally challenged students.Command of English language (read/write/speak).Knowledge and experience facilitating restorative practices and conflict resolution programming with youth in schoolsA demonstrated ability facilitating restorative circlesA demonstrated ability to remain calm during crisis situations and effectively de-escalate studentsPrior knowledge of social-emotional developmentDemonstrates ability to negotiate contracts which hold student accountable while building personal responsibility and developing positive alternative behaviorA demonstrated ability using the language of restoration and restorative questions to resolve conflicts.
CERTIFICATE / LICENSE REQUIRED:
  1. A certificate of completion of an approved teacher assistant training programCertification (or willing to become certified) in a de-escalation/physical restraint programCertificate (or willingness to become certified) in restorative practices

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:

Assists in data collection related to individual student programs
• To implement classroom and individual level/point systems and individualized programs.
• To intervene, monitor, and document behavior of students during crisis situations including time-out and physical interventions/restraint.
• To de-escalate problem behaviors within the school setting
•To accompany students and implement behavior systems during specials, lunch, recess, and other times during the school day when the students are not in the special needs classroom
• To function as part of a team in creative problem solving related to individual students
• To assist with training other papa-professionals in behavior management, crisis intervention, data collection, and restorative practices
• To work as part of a team with service providers and outside service agencies to meet the student needs
• To actively participate in classroom activities as directed by the teacher
• Attends training sessions to further professional growth on MLP
• To develop and train Providence staff in behavior plans and implementation and restorative practices
• Effect a positive environment
• Maintain positive student-staff relationships
• Provides classroom staff with support during a crisis situation
• Plan and coordinate incentives for behavior classrooms
• Covers lunch in the cafeteria
• Serves on the crisis team when a deciding a course of action for a BIP student who has been in crisis.
• Monitor bus duty
• Assist with before and after school transitions
• Follows policies and procedures regarding behavior management
• Uses restorative practices and other psycho-educational methods to affect positive behavior change
• Attends 90% of supervision meetings with behavior coach
• Attends 90% of scheduled staff and team meetings
• Facilitates major and minor repair circles with students, community partners, staff and family members
  • Negotiates contracts which hold student accountable while building personal responsibility
Salary Range: $21.27-21.59
