Primary Purpose:

Overall responsibility for the maintenance of Brenham ISD's Management Information Systems (MIS). Perform updates to database and software. Creates and maintains role-based access control within information systems. Acts as a liaison to software vendors and district staff.

Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):

Three to five years of system administration experience, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position; Associate's Degree; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Work with, maintain and develop efficiencies for any of the District's management information systems, web, or other systems.
  • Create SQL queries and reports on an as needed basis in support of functional areas of the District.
  • Troubleshoot and work with our technical partners and the IT team to resolve management information systems software issues.
  • Identify and pursue needs for application software improvements to satisfy functional requirements.
  • Interface and work directly with application software and hardware vendors to maintain and enhance the management information system.
  • Research and monitor new and emerging developments in the requirements and capabilities of management information systems.
  • Assist in the training of end users in the use of MIS-related software.
  • Assist in creating external data files for import into the database, and export from the database.
  • Assist in the functional area in setting up document tracking to help automate information flow.
  • Assist in the configuration, maintenance and continued development of a student portal.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation of the District's MIS and related databases.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of procedures to support IT policies.
  • Train the IT team member designation as a backup to this position.
  • Effectively perform as a member of the team in carrying out the District's mission statement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of MIS operations including related application and operating system software and hardware.
  • Basic understanding of network operations and client-server environments.
  • Excellent technical project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communications and relational skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail documentation.
  • Be available for on-call emergencies.
  • Effectively organize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Work independently, exercise initiative, and follow through to completion of assigned tasks.
  • Understand the importance of documentation, change management procedures, and test environments.
  • Understand the importance of availability, confidentiality, and integrity of needed data or information.
  • Work closely and effectively with the Director of Information Technology, Network Administrator and the IT Team.
  • Mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.
