GENERAL JOB FUNCTION
Provide social work services to students and families related to social, emotional and life
adjustments in society.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
A. Develop, plan and implement educational programs for children.
- Participate in Problem-Solving Team meetings to screen; provide social development assessments and design intervention plans for students.
- Develop and facilitate classroom interventions.
B. Establish family contacts to alleviate family stress to enable students to function effectively in school.
- Interview the family to assess problems affecting school adjustment.
- Design home-school prevention/intervention programs.
- Maintain a flexible schedule allowing for evening contacts with families.
C. Advocate as School-Community Liaison for students and families.
- Link school and community services.
- Help schools receive adequate support from social health and mental health agencies.
- Expand family's knowledge base of community resources and utilization of such resources.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of eligibility requirements for community resources (AFDC, Medicaid, food stamps, Champ Camp, etc.) and advocates for students and families in this regard.
D. Provide various group prevention/interventions for students, staff, and families.
- Develop staff in service training programs such as classroom management.
- Develop prevention-focused programs.
- Assist and facilitate training such as social skills for students in school.
- Provide parent-training programs in school and in home settings.
E. Provide individual interventions
- Respond to crisis situations.
- Conduct counseling and casework with students and families.
- Help the system respond effectively to each student's needs.
F. Maintain the professional knowledge required to assure excellence in job performance with a special focus on the content area of the position and on the multicultural aspects of managing and interacting with a diverse work force.
G. Contribute to and promote the accomplishment of School District goals.
H. Perform other miscellaneous responsibilities as required by the School District.
