The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of the payroll and maintaining employee records for all ALS employees.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Payroll processing including timely and accurate data entry of employee information, garnishments and maintenance of the payroll records for all employees in compliance with all company policies and approvals over employment.
  • Calculation of residual percentages and routine checking of residual accrual balances for 10 and 11 month employees.
  • Processing of manual checks in accordance with company policies.
  • Processing of verifications of employment.
  • Provide appropriate payroll information and work on other projects as directed by the HR Director
  • Answer employee questions regarding payroll and assist school EAs with timekeeping issues and other questions.
  • Serve as backup for other Human Resource team members and assist with special projects.
  • Assist in answering telephones for HR Department as needed.
  • Ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and timely
  • Validating all monthly, quarterly, and annual Inova reports and tax filings
  • Continuously reviewing process for compliance with regulations and regulatory changes and recommending appropriate course of action
  • Auditing Inova garnishment and other billings against deductions
  • Performs benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment, and communicating benefit information to employees. Also supplies employee information to insurance providers.
  • Coordinating timekeeper/payroll administration with school based representatives.
  • Handles employee relations issues related to payroll.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Maintains Human Resource Information System (HRIS) records and compiles reports from database.
  • Will be responsible for understanding union contract for locations assigned.
  • Provide customer service to employees in regards to personnel / benefits questions related to payroll.
  • Anticipate needs of department and participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Develops and maintains EEO-1 information; files EEO-1 report annually.
  • Provides support to Director in all areas of human resources.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of payroll compliance regulations and regulatory expectations
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to analyze payroll data
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver high level of customer service to employees.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work in a technology rich environment
  • Skilled in the use of productivity software, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook as well as HRIS and Payroll software


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum 3-5 years previous Human Resource, benefits and payroll experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Prior experience working with HRIS and timekeeping software preferred.
