The Aspen Hope Center, in partnership with Basalt Middle School is seeking a Prevention Counselor to work within the Basalt Middle School. This is an independent position requiring self-direction, motivation and energy to work with the counseling and administrative staff. The ideal candidate will successfully create a new position within a school that can help students grow with confidence and self-esteem. Prevention measures can be implemented that instill resilience in students and aid them in feeling a sense of belonging as they prepare for high school.
Job Description:
In general, prevention specialists are responsible for the creation, provision, evaluation and school-wide integration of comprehensive prevention and mentoring services. These services identify and address the psychosocial needs of all students. The Prevention Specialist is also a key team-member in the management and support of the CREW advisory model. The Prevention Specialist works in tandem with the school counselor and the school-based mental health clinician. The specific scope and duties of, and qualifications for, this position are variable, depending credentials of the individual hired, but are certain to include the following:
Qualifications:
Ideal candidate enjoys and has experience working with a team to solve problems.
· Provide interventional support for substance abuse and behavioral health through small group sessions, 1:1 student counseling and coaching support for teachers
· Work to promote school-wide goals of increasing student sense of belonging and equity
· Connect students and families with outside services
· Provide follow up to "Second Chance" program assigned by administration for students with incidents like vaping and violence
· Meet with students during the day who are removed from classroom for any amount of time related to substance use, safety, or mental health
· Help design and teach Crew lessons on prevention topics including self-esteem, belonging, equity, and coping
· Facilitate training for staff for lessons related to substance use and mental health topics and be a resource to staff on substance abuse questions and concerns
· Work on a team and participate in the MTSS process
· Support health education curriculum across grade levels
· Provide care coordination and connect students with Tier III services provided by community partners Experience in working with adolescents ages 10 to 15 is crucial
· Experience in an educational setting is preferred.
· Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish)
Requirements:
· The qualified candidate will have a CAC or other license from DORA or CDE.
· This position is provided due to a Colorado Department of Education grant awarded for a three-year cycle. Reporting requirements will need to be met.
· This position works a 185-day contract and follows the school calendar.
Pay range: $43,949 - $64,304 **Based on education and years of experience
**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.
RFSD offers full district paid employee health benefits as well as voluntary vision, dental, and dependent coverage. Other benefits include: paid leave, CO PERA (pension plan) enrollment with district contribution, TSA options, Employee Assistance and Wellness Programs.
